He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap.In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well.Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that,if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. (niv)

I thought,‘ Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom.’But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding. (niv)

To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, (niv)

The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. (niv)
