是時天主未嘗在此地賜之以業、即立足之地、亦未賜之、惟許以此地賜彼及其子孫為業、時亞伯拉罕尚未有子也、

然未嘗畀之為業、抑且身無立錐之地、惟有以此賜彼及其後裔為業之許諾。而亞伯漢當時固未有後也。

He gave him no inheritance here, not even enough ground to set his foot on. But God promised him that he and his descendants after him would possess the land, even though at that time Abraham had no child.

God didn’t give him any property here. He didn’t even give him enough land to set his foot on. But God made a promise to him and to all his family after him. He said they would possess the land. The promise was made even though at that time Abraham had no child.

Yet he gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot’s length, but promised to give it to him as a possession and to his offspring after him, though he had no child.

我要把你現在寄居的地，就是迦南全地，賜給你和你的後裔永遠為業；我也必作他們的神。」

耶和華向亞伯蘭顯現，說：「我要把這地賜給你的後裔。」亞伯蘭就在那裏為向他顯現的耶和華築了一座壇。

你所看見一切的地，我都要把它賜給你和你的後裔，直到永遠。

在那日，耶和華與亞伯蘭立約，說：「我已賜給你的後裔這一片地，從埃及河直到大河，幼發拉底河，

你要寄居在這地，我必與你同在，賜福給你，因為我要將這一切的地都賜給你和你的後裔。我必堅定我向你父親亞伯拉罕所起的誓。

你發現他在你面前心裏忠誠，就與他立約，要把迦南人、赫人、亞摩利人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、革迦撒人之地賜給他的後裔，並且你也實現了你的話，因為你是公義的。

耶和華對他說：「這就是我向亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許之地，說：『我必將這地賜給你的後裔。』現在我使你親眼看見了，你卻不得過到那裏去。」

「我在你們中間是外人，是寄居的。請給我你們那裏的一塊墳地，我好埋葬我的亡妻，使她不在我的面前。」

看哪，耶和華站在梯子上面，說：「我是耶和華－你祖父亞伯拉罕的神，以撒的神。你現在躺臥之地，我要將它賜給你和你的後裔。你的後裔必像地上的塵沙，必向東西南北開展；地上萬族必因你和你的後裔得福。看哪，我必與你同在，無論你往哪裏去，我必保佑你，領你歸回這地。我總不離棄你，直到我實現了對你所說的話。」

你能進去得他們的地，並不是因你的義，也不是因你心裏正直，而是因這些國家的惡，耶和華－你的神才把他們從你面前趕出去，為了應驗耶和華向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓應許的話。」

也使你們的日子，在耶和華向你們列祖起誓要給他們和他們後裔的地上得以長久，那是流奶與蜜之地。

因着信，他就在所應許之地作客，好像在異鄉，居住在帳棚裏，與蒙同一個應許的以撒和雅各一樣。因為他等候着那座有根基的城，就是神所設計和建造的。

我要以你們為我的百姓，我也要作你們的神。我除去埃及人加給你們的勞役，你們就知道我是耶和華你們的神。我起誓應許給亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各的地，我要領你們進去，將那地賜給你們為業。我是耶和華。』」

「耶和華－你的神必領你進他向你列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起誓要給你的地。那裏有又大又美的城鎮，不是你建造的；有裝滿各樣美物的房屋，不是你裝滿的；有挖成的水井，不是你挖的；有葡萄園、橄欖園，不是你栽植的；你吃了而且飽足。

我必賜福給她，也要從她賜一個兒子給你。我必賜福給撒拉，她要興起多國；必有百姓的君王從她而出。」亞伯拉罕就臉伏於地竊笑，心裏想：「一百歲的人還能有孩子嗎？撒拉已經九十歲了，還能生育嗎？」亞伯拉罕對神說：「但願以實瑪利活在你面前。」神說：「不！你妻子撒拉必為你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫以撒。我要與他堅立我的約，成為他後裔永遠的約。

耶和華對我說：『起來，走在百姓前面，領他們進去得我向他們列祖起誓要給他們的地。』」

不可向他們挑戰；他們的地，連腳掌可踏之處，我都不給你們，因我已將西珥山賜給以掃為業。

他記念他的約，直到永遠；記念他吩咐的話，直到千代，就是與亞伯拉罕所立的約，向以撒所起的誓。他將這約向雅各定為律例，向以色列定為永遠的約，說：「我必將迦南地賜給你，作你們應得的產業。」當時，他們人丁有限，數目稀少，在那地寄居。

撒萊對亞伯蘭說：「看哪，耶和華使我不能生育。你來和我的婢女同房，也許我可以從她得孩子。」亞伯蘭聽從了撒萊的話。

亞伯蘭說：「主耶和華啊，我還沒有兒子，你能賜我甚麼呢？承受我家業的是大馬士革人以利以謝。」亞伯蘭又說：「看哪，你沒有給我後嗣。你看，那生在我家中的人要繼承我。」看哪，耶和華的話又臨到他，說：「這人不會繼承你，你本身所生的才會繼承你。」於是耶和華帶他到外面，說：「你向天觀看，去數星星，你能數得清嗎？」又對他說：「你的後裔將要如此。」

這些人都是存着信心死的，並沒有得着所應許的，卻從遠處觀望，且歡喜迎接。他們承認自己在地上是客旅，是寄居的。說這樣話的人是表明自己要尋找一個家鄉。他們若想念所離開的家鄉，還有回去的機會。其實他們所羨慕的是一個更美的，就是在天上的家鄉。所以，神並不因他們稱他為神而覺得羞恥，因為他已經為他們預備了一座城。
