Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great,

Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit,“ In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her. (niv)

But when the magicians tried to produce gnats by their secret arts, they could not. Since the gnats were on people and animals everywhere,the magicians said to Pharaoh,“ This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said. (niv)

They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. (niv)

Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. (niv)

Many of those who believed now came and openly confessed what they had done.A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people.Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. (niv)

But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh’s heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said. (niv)

“‘ I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people. (niv)

The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians. (niv)

Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts: (niv)

Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. (niv)

For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. (niv)
