“ Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel, and because I will do this to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God.”

“ So, people of Israel, I will judge you. Because I will do that to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God!”

“ Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

“ Therefore, I will bring upon you all the disasters I have announced. Prepare to meet your God in judgment, you people of Israel!”

Therefore, Israel, that is what I will do to you, and since I will do that to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God!

for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.While people are saying,“ Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. (niv)

What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us?But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (niv)

“ But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.“ Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back— whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.What I say to you, I say to everyone:‘ Watch!’” (niv)

You have not gone up to the breaches in the wall to repair it for the people of Israel so that it will stand firm in the battle on the day of the Lord. (niv)

“ I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. (niv)

I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said:“ Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds shake. Bring them down on the heads of all the people; those who are left I will kill with the sword. Not one will get away, none will escape.Though they dig down to the depths below, from there my hand will take them. Though they climb up to the heavens above, from there I will bring them down.Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, there I will hunt them down and seize them. Though they hide from my eyes at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent to bite them.Though they are driven into exile by their enemies, there I will command the sword to slay them.“ I will keep my eye on them for harm and not for good.” (niv)

The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his holiness:“ The time will surely come when you will be taken away with hooks, the last of you with fishhooks.You will each go straight out through breaches in the wall, and you will be cast out toward Harmon,” declares the Lord. (niv)

“ Truly I tell you,” he said,“ this poor widow has put in more than all the others.All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said,“ As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.”“ Teacher,” they asked,“ when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?”He replied:“ Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming,‘ I am he,’ and,‘ The time is near.’ Do not follow them.When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”Then he said to them:“ Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.“ But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name.And so you will bear testimony to me.But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.Everyone will hate you because of me.But not a hair of your head will perish.Stand firm, and you will win life.“ When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city.For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people.They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.“ There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”He told them this parable:“ Look at the fig tree and all the trees.When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near.Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.“ Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.“ Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” (niv)

Like a bear robbed of her cubs, I will attack them and rip them open; like a lion I will devour them— a wild animal will tear them apart. (niv)

Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one.” (niv)

“ Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. (niv)

This is what the Lord says to Israel:“ Seek me and live;do not seek Bethel, do not go to Gilgal, do not journey to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into exile, and Bethel will be reduced to nothing.”Seek the Lord and live, or he will sweep through the tribes of Joseph like a fire; it will devour them, and Bethel will have no one to quench it.There are those who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness to the ground.He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns midnight into dawn and darkens day into night, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land— the Lord is his name.With a blinding flash he destroys the stronghold and brings the fortified city to ruin.There are those who hate the one who upholds justice in court and detest the one who tells the truth.You levy a straw tax on the poor and impose a tax on their grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins. There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and deprive the poor of justice in the courts.Therefore the prudent keep quiet in such times, for the times are evil.Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph. (niv)

So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.“ Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time?It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself,‘ My master is staying away a long time,’and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of.He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.“ At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.Five of them were foolish and five were wise.The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.“ At midnight the cry rang out:‘ Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’“ Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.The foolish ones said to the wise,‘ Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’“‘ No,’ they replied,‘ there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’“ But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.“ Later the others also came.‘ Lord, Lord,’ they said,‘ open the door for us!’“ But he replied,‘ Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’“ Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. (niv)

“ Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. (niv)

The swift will not escape, the strong will not muster their strength, and the warrior will not save his life. (niv)

Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you. (niv)
