And in his place a despicable person will arise, on whom the majesty of kingship has not been conferred; but he will come in a time of tranquility and seize the kingdom by intrigue.

嗣其位者、為卑陋之夫、國位之榮、原不宜得、乃乘宴安之際、以諂諛而得國、

又繼位者、所行卑賤、不宜踐位、乃因時值承平、以諂諛而得國、

繼其位者卑陋之人、原不當得國榮、乘人不備之時、用狡譎之計獲國、

“ He will be succeeded by a contemptible person who has not been given the honor of royalty. He will invade the kingdom when its people feel secure, and he will seize it through intrigue.

“ After him, another king will take his place. Many people will hate him. He will not be honored as a king should be. He will lead an army into the kingdom when its people feel secure. He will make clever plans to capture it.

In his place shall arise a contemptible person to whom royal majesty has not been given. He shall come in without warning and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

“ The next to come to power will be a despicable man who is not in line for royal succession. He will slip in when least expected and take over the kingdom by flattery and intrigue.

“ In his place a despised person will arise; royal honors will not be given to him, but he will come during a time of peace and seize the kingdom by intrigue.

And in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue.

And in his place shall stand up a contemptible person, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom: but he shall come in time of security, and shall obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

“ In his place a despised person will arise; royal honors will not be given to him, but he will come during a time of peace and seize the kingdom by intrigue.

And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

“ Then there will arise in his place a despicable person to whom the royal honor has not been rightfully conferred. He will come on the scene in a time of prosperity and will seize the kingdom through deceit.

“ In his place a contemptible person will stand up, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom; but he will come in time of security, and will obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

And through his shrewdness He will make deceit a success by his influence; And he will make himself great in his own mind, And he will destroy many while they are at ease. He will even oppose the Prince of princes, But he will be broken without human agency.

Now when they fall they will be granted a little help, and many will join with them in hypocrisy.

And in the latter period of their dominion, When the wrongdoers have run their course, A king will arise, Insolent and skilled in intrigue.

His speech was smoother than butter, But his heart was war; His words were softer than oil, Yet they were drawn swords.

The Lord has issued a command concerning you:“ Your name will no longer be perpetuated. I will eliminate the carved image and the cast metal image From the house of your gods. I will prepare your grave, For you are contemptible.”

“ Then in his place one will arise who will allow an oppressor to pass through the Jewel of his kingdom; yet within a few days he will be broken, though not in anger nor in battle.

And by smooth words he will turn to godlessness those who act wickedly toward the covenant, but the people who know their God will be strong and take action.

But one of the descendants of her line will arise in his place, and he will come against their army and enter the fortress of the king of the North, and he will deal with them and prevail.

The wicked strut about on every side When vileness is exalted among the sons of mankind.

No longer will the fool be called noble, Or the rogue be spoken of as generous.

For I have told him that I am going to judge his house forever for the wrongdoing that he knew, because his sons were bringing a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.

Now Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem, to his mother’s relatives, and spoke to them and to the entire family of the household of his mother’s father, saying,“ Speak, now, in the hearing of all the leaders of Shechem,‘ Which is better for you: for seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, to rule over you, or for one man to rule over you?’ Also, remember that I am your bone and your flesh.”So his mother’s relatives spoke all these words on his behalf in the hearing of all the leaders of Shechem; and they were inclined to follow Abimelech, for they said,“ He is our relative.”And they gave him seventy pieces of silver from the house of Baal berith, with which Abimelech hired worthless and reckless men, and they followed him.Then he went to his father’s house in Ophrah and killed his brothers the sons of Jerubbaal, seventy men, on one stone. But Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left, because he hid himself.All the leaders of Shechem and all Beth millo assembled together, and they went and made Abimelech king, by the oak of the memorial stone which was in Shechem.Now when they told Jotham, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim, and raised his voice and called out. And he said to them,“ Listen to me, you leaders of Shechem, that God may listen to you.Once the trees went to anoint a king over them, and they said to the olive tree,‘ Reign over us!’But the olive tree said to them,‘ Shall I give up my fatness with which God and mankind are honored, and go to wave over the trees?’Then the trees said to the fig tree,‘ You, come, reign over us!’But the fig tree said to them,‘ Shall I give up my sweetness and my good fruit, and go to wave over the trees?’Then the trees said to the vine,‘ You, come, reign over us!’But the vine said to them,‘ Shall I give up my new wine, which cheers God and mankind, and go to wave over the trees?’Then all the trees said to the bramble,‘ You, come, reign over us!’And the bramble said to the trees,‘ If you really are anointing me as king over you, come and take refuge in my shade; but if not, may fire come out of the bramble and consume the cedars of Lebanon.’“ Now then, if you have acted with honesty and integrity in making Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have dealt with him as he deserved—for my father fought for you, and risked his life and saved you from the hand of Midian;but in fact you have risen against my father’s house today and have killed his sons, seventy men, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his female slave, king over the leaders of Shechem, because he is your relative—so if you have acted with honesty and integrity toward Jerubbaal and his house this day, be joyful about Abimelech, and may he also be joyful about you.But if not, may fire come out of Abimelech and consume the leaders of Shechem and Beth millo; and may fire come out of the leaders of Shechem and from Beth millo, and consume Abimelech.”

And Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the road to the gate; and when any man who had a lawsuit was to come before the king for judgment, Absalom would call out to him and say,“ From what city are you?” And he would say,“ Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel.”Then Absalom would say to him,“ See, your claims are good and right, but you have no one to listen to you on the part of the king.”Moreover, Absalom would say,“ Oh that someone would appoint me judge in the land, then every man who has a lawsuit or claim could come to me, and I would give him justice!”And whenever a man approached to prostrate himself before him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.Absalom dealt this way with all Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole the hearts of the people of Israel.

A despicable person is despised in his eyes, But he honors those who fear the Lord; He takes an oath to his own detriment, and does not change;

While I was thinking about the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them, and three of the previous horns were plucked out before it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like human eyes, and a mouth uttering great boasts.

And out of one of them came a rather small horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Beautiful Land.
