He was still speaking when he heard a voice from heaven. It said,“ King Nebuchadnezzar, here is what has been ordered concerning you. Your royal authority has been taken from you.

Those who are evil are happy for only a short time. The joy of ungodly people lasts only for a moment.

But even before they had finished eating, God acted. He did it while the food was still in their mouths.His anger rose up against them. He put to death the strongest among them. He struck down Israel’s young men.

Then all the king’s wise men came in. But they couldn’t read the writing. They couldn’t tell him what it meant.

So he sent the hand that wrote on the wall.“ Here is what was written. mene, mene, tekel, parsin“ And here is what these words mean.“ The word Mene means that God has limited the time of your rule. He has brought it to an end.“ The word Tekel means that you have been weighed on scales. And you haven’t measured up to God’s standard.“ The word Peres means that your authority over your kingdom will be taken away from you. It will be given to the Medes and Persians.”

I saw the dead, great and small, standing in front of the throne. Books were opened. Then another book was opened. It was the book of life. The dead were judged by what they had done. The things they had done were written in the books.The sea gave up the dead that were in it. And Death and Hell gave up their dead. Each person was judged by what they had done.Then Death and Hell were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.Anyone whose name was not written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

The wise men and those who practice magic were brought to me. They were asked to read this writing and tell me what it means. But they couldn’t.

Whoever still won’t obey after being warned many times will suddenly be destroyed. Nothing can save them.

He wiped out what the law said that we owed. The law stood against us. It judged us. But he has taken it away and nailed it to the cross.

What had been said about King Nebuchadnezzar came true at once. He was driven away from people. He ate grass just as an ox does. His body became wet with the dew of heaven. He stayed that way until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle. His nails became like the claws of a bird.

You know very well how the day of the Lord will come. It will come like a thief in the night.People will be saying that everything is peaceful and safe. Then suddenly they will be destroyed. It will happen like birth pains coming on a pregnant woman. None of the people will escape.

I’ll say to myself,“ You have plenty of grain stored away for many years. Take life easy. Eat, drink and have a good time.” ’“ But God said to him,‘ You foolish man! Tonight I will take your life away from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
