但以理在王面前回答说：“王所问的那奥秘的事，没有智慧人、占卜者、术士或算命者能讲明给王。

于是术士、占卜者、迦勒底人和算命者都来了；我就向他们说了这梦，他们却不能把这梦的释义显明给我。

到了早晨，法老灵里烦乱，就派人召来了埃及所有的术士和智慧人。法老向他们讲述了他的梦，但没有人能为法老解梦。

丧子和寡居这两件事必在一日之内突然临到你！你的法术再多，符咒再有威力，这两件事也必全然临到你！

现在智慧人和占卜者都被带到我面前，为要他们读出这文字，并把它的释义显明给我，但他们却不能讲明这句话的释义；

坚持施行你的符咒和众多法术吧！那些都是你从年轻时辛劳所得的，或许你能得益处，或许还能让人恐惧呢！你因谋划过多而筋疲力尽；现在就让那些划分天象、观看星辰、在新月时说预言的都站出来吧，拯救你脱离那些将要临到你的事！看哪！他们必像麦秸一样被火烧毁，他们不能解救自己脱离威猛的火焰；这不是可以用来取暖的炭火，也不是可以坐在其面前的炉火。那些与你一起辛劳的，就是从你年轻时就与你一起做买卖的，对你也是如此；他们各奔己路，四处飘流，没有人拯救你。”
