但以理回答王說：「王所問的那奧祕，智慧人、巫師、術士、觀兆的都不能告訴王，

於是那些術士、巫師、迦勒底人、觀兆的都進來，我將那夢告訴他們，他們卻不能把夢的解釋告訴我。

到了早晨，法老心裏不安，就派人把埃及所有的術士和智慧人都召來。法老把所做的夢告訴他們，但是沒有人能為法老解夢。

哪知，喪子、寡居這兩件事一日之間忽然臨到你；你雖多行邪術、廣施魔咒，這兩件事必全然臨到你身上。

現在智慧人和巫師都被帶到我面前，要叫他們讀這文字，為我講解它的意思；無奈他們都不能講解它的意思。

儘管使用從幼年就施行的魔符和眾多的邪術吧！或許有些幫助，或許可以致勝。你籌劃太多，以致疲倦。讓那些觀天象，看星宿，在初一說預言的都起來，救你脫離所要臨到你的事！看哪，他們要像碎稭被火焚燒，無法救自己脫離火焰的魔掌；沒有炭火可以取暖，你也不能坐在火旁。你所操勞的事都像這樣；從你幼年以來與你交易的都各奔己路，沒有一人來救你。
