尼布甲尼撒在執政第二年做了夢，心裡煩亂，無法入睡，

耶和華說：「你們聽我說，你們中間若有先知，我耶和華必在異象中向他顯現，在夢中跟他說話。

晚上，上帝在異象中對他說：「雅各！雅各！」他說：「我在這裡。」

此後，我在夜間的異象中看見第四隻獸，恐怖可怕，極其強壯，用大鐵牙吞吃、咬碎獵物，用腳踐踏所剩的。這獸與前三隻獸不同，牠有十個角。

當夜，迦勒底王伯沙撒被殺。

我正要將雷鳴的意思記錄下來，就聽見天上有聲音說：「你要封住七聲雷鳴所說的事，別寫下來。」

這些事以後，耶和華在異象中對亞伯蘭說：「亞伯蘭，你不用害怕，我是你的盾牌，我要大大賞賜你。」

耶和華對我說：「你去拿塊大的寫字板，用通用的文字在上面寫上『瑪黑珥·沙拉勒·哈施·罷斯』。

耶和華對我說：「現在，你去當著他們的面把這些話刻在版上，記在書卷上，永遠留給後世作明證。

在看見先前的異象之後，我但以理在伯沙撒王執政第三年又看見一個異象。
