波斯王塞魯士執政第三年，但以理，又名伯提沙撒，得到啟示。這啟示是真實的，是關於一場大爭戰的事。但以理通過異象明白了啟示的意思。

但以理啊，這些話要保密，要把這書封起來，直到末了。許多人必四處探究，因而知識必增多。」

我來是要使你明白將來你同胞的遭遇，因為這異象是關於將來的事。」

他說：「但以理啊，你走吧，因為這些事要保密，要被封起來，一直到末了。

他又對我說：「不可封住這卷書上的預言，因為時候快到了。

「人子啊，你看，以色列人在說，『他見的異象是關乎多年後的事，他說的預言是針對遙遠的未來。』

我正要將雷鳴的意思記錄下來，就聽見天上有聲音說：「你要封住七聲雷鳴所說的事，別寫下來。」

對她說：「你要和我住許多日子。這期間不可行淫，不可親近別的男人，我也不與你同房。」以色列人也要有許多日子沒有君王和首領，沒有祭祀和神柱，也沒有以弗得和家庭神像。

它狂妄自大，要與天軍的統帥比高，它廢除日常獻給祂的祭，毀壞祂的聖所。因為反叛的緣故，天軍和日常所獻的祭都交給了它。它將真理拋在地上，它所行的無不順利。接著，我聽見一位聖者在說話，另一位聖者問他：「異象中出現的有關日常所獻的祭，毀滅性的反叛和踐踏聖所及天軍的事要持續多久呢？」他對我說：「兩千三百個晝夜。之後，聖所才會潔淨。」我但以理看見這異象，正想明白它的意思，忽然有一個外貌像人的站在我面前。

他們必像囚犯一樣被聚在一起，關在牢裡，日後必受懲罰。
