孩子們哪，來聽我！我要將敬畏耶和華的道教導你們。

只有活人，活人必稱謝你，像我今日稱謝你一樣。為父的，必使兒女知道你的信實。

他在雅各中立法度，在以色列中設律法；他吩咐我們的祖宗要傳給子孫，使將要生的後代子孫可以曉得。他們也要起來告訴他們的子孫，

孩子們，要聽父親的訓誨，留心明白道理。因我給你們好的教導，不可離棄我的教誨。當我在父親面前還是小孩，是母親獨一嬌兒的時候，他教導我說：「你的心要持守我的話，遵守我的命令，你就會存活。要獲得智慧，要獲得聰明，不可忘記，也不可偏離我口中的言語。不可離棄智慧，智慧就庇護你，要愛她，她就保護你。智慧為首，所以要獲得智慧，要用你一切所有的換取聰明。高舉智慧，她就使你升高，擁抱智慧，她就使你尊榮。她必將恩惠的華冠加在你頭上，把榮冕賜給你。」我兒啊，要聽，要領受我的言語，你就必延年益壽。我已指教你走智慧的道，引導你行正直的路。你行走，腳步沒有阻礙；你奔跑，也不致跌倒。要持定訓誨，不可放鬆；要謹守它，因為它是你的生命。不可行惡人的路，不要走壞人的道；要躲避，不可經過，要轉離而去。他們若不行惡，難以成眠，不使人跌倒，就睡臥不安；因為他們以邪惡當餅吃，以暴力當酒喝。但義人的路好像黎明的光，越照越明，直到正午。惡人的道幽暗，自己不知因何跌倒。我兒啊，要留心聽我的話，側耳聽我的言語，不可使它們偏離你的眼目，要存記在你心中。因為找到它們的，就找到生命，得到全身的醫治。你要保守你心，勝過保守一切，因為生命的泉源由心發出。要離開歪曲的口，轉離偏邪的嘴唇。你的兩眼要向前看，你的雙目直視前方。要修平你腳下的路，你一切的道就必穩固。不可偏左偏右，你的腳要離開邪惡。
