He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

The king must not have many wives. If he does, they will lead him astray. He must not store up large amounts of silver and gold.

And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.

The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will turn his heart away from the Lord. And he must not accumulate large amounts of wealth in silver and gold for himself.

以色列王所羅門不也在這樣的事上犯罪嗎？在許多國家中並沒有一位王像他，蒙他上帝喜愛，上帝立他作王治理全以色列。然而，連他也被外邦女子引誘犯罪。

因此，人要離開父母，與妻子結合，二人成為一體。

所羅門王在法老的女兒之外，又寵愛許多外邦女子，就是摩押女子、亞捫女子、以東女子、西頓女子、赫人女子。論到這些國的人，耶和華曾吩咐以色列人說：「你們不可跟他們通婚，他們也不可跟你們在一起，因為他們一定會誘惑你們的心去隨從他們的神明。」所羅門卻為了愛，緊緊跟從他們。所羅門娶七百個公主，三百個妃嬪。這些妻妾誘惑他的心。所羅門年老的時候，他的妻妾誘惑他的心去隨從別神，不像他父親大衛以純正的心順服耶和華－他的上帝。

求你使虛假和謊言遠離我，使我不貧窮也不富足，賜給我需用的飲食。免得我飽足了，就不認你，說：「耶和華是誰呢？」又恐怕我貧窮就偷竊，以致褻瀆我上帝的名。

不要仗勢欺人，也不要因搶奪而驕傲；若財寶加增，不要放在心上。

大衛在希伯崙生了幾個兒子：長子暗嫩是耶斯列人亞希暖所生的；次子基利押是作過迦密人拿八的妻子亞比該所生的；三子押沙龍是基述王達買的女兒瑪迦所生的；四子亞多尼雅是哈及所生的；五子示法提雅是亞比她所生的；六子以特念是大衛的妻子以格拉所生的。大衛這六個兒子都是在希伯崙生的。

於是他對他們說：「你們要謹慎自守，躲避一切的貪心，因為人的生命不在於家道豐富。」

至於那些今世富足的人，你要囑咐他們不要自高，也不要倚賴靠不住的錢財；要倚靠那厚賜萬物給我們享受的上帝。

一個人如果還剩下一點靈性，他不會這麼做。這人在尋找甚麼呢？上帝的後裔！當謹守你們的靈性，誰也不可背棄年輕時所娶的妻。

但那些想要發財的人就陷在誘惑、羅網和許多無知有害的慾望中，使人沉淪，以致敗壞和滅亡。

耶穌對門徒說：「我實在告訴你們，財主進天國是難的。我再告訴你們，駱駝穿過針眼比財主進上帝的國還容易呢！」

撒在荊棘裏的，就是人聽了道，後來有世上的憂慮、錢財的迷惑把道擠住了，結不出果實。

「不要為自己在地上積蓄財寶；地上有蟲子咬，能銹壞，也有賊挖洞來偷。要在天上積蓄財寶；天上沒有蟲子咬，不會銹壞，也沒有賊挖洞來偷。

所羅門王一切的飲器都是金的，黎巴嫩林宮裏所有的器皿都是純金的。在所羅門的日子，銀子算不了甚麼。
