Give the people these orders:‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.

Here are the orders I want you to give the people. Tell them,‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives. They are from the family line of Esau. They live in Seir. They will be afraid of you. But be very careful.

and command the people,“ You are about to pass through the territory of your brothers, the people of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful.

Give these orders to the people:“ You will pass through the country belonging to your relatives the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. The Edomites will feel threatened, so be careful.

Command the people: You are about to travel through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so be very careful.

Instruct these people as follows:‘ You are about to cross the border of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who inhabit Seir. They will be afraid of you, so watch yourselves carefully.

摩西从加低斯派使者去见以东王说：“你的兄弟以色列这样说：你知道我们遭遇的一切困难，就是我们的列祖下到埃及去，我们在埃及住了很多日子；埃及人恶待我们和我们的列祖；我们向耶和华呼求，他就听了我们的声音，派使者把我们从埃及领出来；现在我们就在你边界上的城加低斯。求你容我们从你的地经过；我们不走过田地和葡萄园，也不喝井里的水，我们只走大路，不偏左也不偏右，直到走过了你的境地。”以东王对使者说：“你不可从我这里经过，免得我带着刀出来攻击你。”以色列人对他说：“我们要走大路上去，我们和牲畜若是喝了你的水，我必照价付你；不求别的事，只求你容我们步行经过。”以东王说：“你不可经过。”他就率领很多人出来，要用强硬的手攻击以色列人。这样，以东王不肯让以色列人从他的境内经过，以色列人就离开他去了。

那时，以东的族长惊惶，摩押的英雄被战兢抓住，所有迦南的居民都胆战心寒。

“你不可厌恶以东人，因为他是你的兄弟；不可厌恶埃及人，因为你在他的地上作过寄居的。

好使你们无可指摘、纯真无邪，在这弯曲乖谬的世代中，作神没有瑕疵的儿女；你们要在这世代中发光，好像天上的光体一样，

摩押人十分惧怕这民，因为他们众多；摩押人因以色列人的缘故，十分恐慌。摩押人对米甸的长老说：“现在这群人要吞并我们四周的一切，好像牛吞吃田间的草一样。”那时西拨的儿子巴勒，作摩押王；

照样，你们的光也应当照在人前，让他们看见你们的好行为，又颂赞你们在天上的父。

于是他对众人说：“你们要谨慎，远离一切贪心，因为人的生命并不在于家道丰富。”

因你对兄弟雅各行强暴，你必受羞辱，永被剪除。外地人劫掠雅各财物的日子，外族人进入他的城门，为耶路撒冷抽签；那时你竟袖手旁观，甚至好像他们中间的一分子！你兄弟遭遇祸患的日子，你不该看着不理；犹大人被灭的日子，你不该幸灾乐祸；他们遭难的日子，你不该张口狂傲；我子民遭灾的日子，你不该进入他们的城门；他们遭灾的日子，你不该看着他们受苦；他们遭灾的日子，你不该抢夺他们的财物。

现在我要回我本族去了；你来，我要告诉你这个民族日后要怎样待你的人民。”他就作歌，说：“比珥的儿子巴兰说：‘开着眼的人说，那得听神的话语、明白至高者的知识、得见全能者的异象、身体仆倒而眼目睁开的人说：我看见他，却不是现在；我望见他，却不是近处；必有一星从雅各而出，必有一杖从以色列兴起；他必打碎摩押的额角，粉碎一切舍特人的头顶。他必得以东作产业，又得仇敌之地西珥作产业；只有以色列人成为强壮。

你们要把握时机，用智慧与外人来往。

所以，你们行事为人要谨慎，不要像愚昧人，却要像聪明人。
