If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house,

Suppose a man marries a woman. But later he decides he doesn’t like her. He finds something shameful about her. So he gives her a letter of divorce and sends her away from his house.

“ When a man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, and she departs out of his house,

他們問耶穌：「那麼，為什麼摩西吩咐說，給一份休書，就可以休妻呢？」耶穌對他們說：「摩西因著你們的心裡剛硬，才准許你們休妻，但並不是從起初就這樣的。我告訴你們：如果有人不是由於淫亂的緣故而休妻，另娶別人，就是犯通姦罪。」

耶和華如此說：「我休你們母親的休書在哪裡呢？我把你們賣給了我哪一個債主呢？看哪！你們被賣是因你們的罪孽，你們的母親被休是因你們的過犯。

他們說：「摩西准許人寫一份休書就可以休妻。」耶穌對他們說：「摩西因著你們的心裡剛硬，才給你們定下這條誡命。從創世之初，『神把人造成男的和女的』，『為這緣故，人將離開他的父母，與妻子結合，兩個人就成為一體。』這樣，夫妻不再是兩個人，而是一體了。因此，神所配合的，人不可分開。」進了屋子，門徒們又向耶穌問起這件事。耶穌就說：「如果有人休妻，另娶別人，就是犯通姦罪觸犯妻子。女人如果離棄丈夫，另嫁別人，也是犯通姦罪。」

但如果還是離開了，就應當守身不嫁，或者與丈夫和好。丈夫也不可離棄妻子。對其餘的人，我說——不是主說：如果某個弟兄有不信的妻子，而妻子情願與他一起生活，他就不可離棄妻子；

耶和華以色列的神說：「我實在恨惡休妻的事，也恨惡那用殘暴遮蓋自己衣袍的人！」萬軍之耶和華說：「你們當謹守自己的心靈，不可背信。」

她的丈夫約瑟是個義人，不願意公開羞辱她，想要暗中把她休了。

「又有吩咐：『如果有人休妻，要給妻子一份休書。』但是我告訴你們：凡是休妻的，除非為了淫亂的緣故，否則就是讓她犯通姦罪了；凡是娶了被休的女人的，也是犯通姦罪。

「凡是休妻另娶的，就是犯通姦罪；凡是娶了被丈夫休的女人的，也是犯通姦罪。
