「你們要小心謹慎，因為人們要把你們送上法庭，也要在會堂裡鞭打你們。

公會採納了他的意見，於是把使徒召回來打了一頓，再次警告他們不可奉耶穌的名傳道，才放了他們。

如果你們犯罪受責打，能夠忍受得住，有什麼功勞呢？但如果你們因行善而受苦，還能忍受，就是上帝所喜悅的。

於是，彼拉多為他們釋放了巴拉巴，下令將耶穌鞭打後，帶出去釘十字架。
