雖然如此，當他們在仇敵之地的時候、我還是不棄絕他們；我不厭棄他們、不將他們滅盡、以違犯我的約、我同他們立的；因為我永恆主是他們的上帝，我必為他們的緣故記起我和他們祖先所立的約；他們的祖先是我在外國人眼前、從埃及地領出來、要做他們的上帝的：我永恆主。』

王站在柱旁，在永恆主面前立約，要全心全意地跟從永恆主，謹守他的誡命、法令、律例，來實行這書上所寫這約的話；眾民也都站着承認這約。

那些越犯了我的約、不實行他們在我面前所立之約的話那些人、我必使他們像他們立約時所割開為兩半的牛犢一樣：

摩西上到上帝那裏，永恆主從山上呼喚他說：『你要這樣對雅各家說，這樣告訴以色列人說：「你們都看見過我向埃及人所行的事；我怎樣像鷹背着你們在翅膀上，把你們帶來歸我。如今你們若留心聽我的聲音，守我的約，你們就可以在萬族之民中做屬我的產業，因為全地都是我的。

永恆主對我說：『你要在猶大城市中和耶路撒冷的街上宣告這一切話，說：你們要聽從而遵行這約的話。

惟獨摩西可以挨近永恆主，其他的人都不可挨近；人民也不可和他一同上來。』摩西來到，將永恆主的一切話、一切典章、都向人民敘說；眾民都齊聲答應說：『永恆主所說的話、我們都要遵行。』摩西將永恆主的一切話都寫上，清早起來，在山下築了一座祭壇，按以色列的十二族派立十二根聖柱。又打發以色列人中的青年人去獻上燔祭，並向永恆主獻公牛為平安祭。摩西把一半的血放在盆裏，一半的血潑在祭壇上。又將約書念給人民聽；眾民說：『凡永恆主所說的、我們都要遵行。』摩西將血潑在人民身上說：『看哪，這是盟約的血：這約是永恆主依據這一切話跟你們立的。』

不像我拉着他們祖宗的手、領他們出埃及地的日子、跟他們立的約那樣：我雖做他們的夫君，他們卻違犯了我的約：永恆主發神諭說。

『你要聽這約的話，要告訴猶大人和耶路撒冷的居民，

不像我在拉着他們的手、領他們出埃及的日子、同他們列祖所立的那種約；因為他們沒有恆守我的約，我也不理他們，主說。

你們呢、乃是神言人們的子孫，又是上帝向你們列祖所立的約的子孫；立約時上帝對亞伯拉罕說：「地上萬家族都必因你的後裔而蒙祝福。」

那麼人就必說：「是因為這地的人背棄了他們列祖的上帝的約，背棄了上帝在領他們出埃及時與他們所立的約，

要進一步去守永恆主你的上帝的約、他所宣誓的約就是永恆主你的上帝今日同你所立的約；

你在何烈山站在永恆主你的上帝面前那一天，永恆主怎樣對我說：「你要召集人民，我要叫他們聽我的話，使他們儘在地上活着的日子可以學習敬畏我，也可以教訓他們的兒女。

所以你們要謹慎，免得你們忘記了永恆主你們的上帝的約，就是他與你們所立的，而你們去為自己造雕像，造任何東西的形像、就是永恆主你的上帝所吩咐你不可造的。

他將他的約、就是他所吩咐你們遵行的十句話、向你們宣佈；他並且把這些話寫在兩塊石版上。
