「那時我吩咐他們，『你們的上帝耶和華已經把這些地方賜給你們，但你們所有的戰士必須帶著兵器過河，做同胞的先鋒。

『那時我吩咐你們說：「永恆主你們的上帝已將這地賜給你們去取得它；你們一切有力氣的人都要武裝好，好在你們族弟兄以色列人前面過去。

時、我命爾曰、爾上帝耶和華、既以斯土錫爾為業、爾之勇士、必皆執兵、先爾兄弟以色列人而往、

當時我諭之曰、爾之上帝耶和華雖以斯土錫爾、然爾之軍旅必備以戰、先爾同儕以色列族而遄征、

當時我諭爾曹得斯地之人曰、主爾之天主、既以斯地賜爾為業、爾中所有戰士必執器械、在爾同族同族原文作兄弟以色列人前先往、

I commanded you at that time:“ The Lord your God has given you this land to take possession of it. But all your able- bodied men, armed for battle, must cross over ahead of the other Israelites.

Here is the command I gave at that time to the tribes of Reuben and Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh. I said,“ The Lord your God has given you this land as your very own. But all your strong men must be prepared for battle. They must cross over ahead of the rest of the Israelites.

“ And I commanded you at that time, saying,‘ The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. All your men of valor shall cross over armed before your brothers, the people of Israel.

“ At that time I gave this command to the tribes that would live east of the Jordan:‘ Although the Lord your God has given you this land as your property, all your fighting men must cross the Jordan ahead of your Israelite relatives, armed and ready to assist them.

“ I commanded you at that time: The LORD your God has given you this land to possess. All your valiant men will cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers the Israelites.

“ Then I commanded you at that time, saying,‘ The Lord your God has given you this land to possess it; all you valiant men shall cross over armed ahead of your brothers, the sons of Israel.

“ Then I commanded you at that time, saying:‘ The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. All you men of valor shall cross over armed before your brethren, the children of Israel.

And I commanded you at that time, saying, Jehovah your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all the men of valor.

“ I commanded you at that time: The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. All your fighting men will cross over in battle formation ahead of your brothers the Israelites.

And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all[ that are] meet for the war.

At that time I instructed you as follows:“ The LORD your God has given you this land for your possession. You warriors are to cross over before your fellow Israelites equipped for battle.

I commanded you at that time, saying,“ Yahweh your God has given you this land to possess it. All of you men of valor shall pass over armed before your brothers, the children of Israel.

Then Moses said to them,“ If you will do this— if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battleand if all of you who are armed cross over the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven his enemies out before him—then when the land is subdued before the Lord, you may return and be free from your obligation to the Lord and to Israel. And this land will be your possession before the Lord.“ But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised.” (niv)

The men of Reuben, Gad and the half- tribe of Manasseh crossed over, ready for battle, in front of the Israelites, as Moses had directed them.About forty thousand armed for battle crossed over before the Lord to the plains of Jericho for war. (niv)

Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manassehand said to them,“ You have done all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded, and you have obeyed me in everything I commanded.For a long time now— to this very day— you have not deserted your fellow Israelites but have carried out the mission the Lord your God gave you.Now that the Lord your God has given them rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan.But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”Then Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their homes.( To the half- tribe of Manasseh Moses had given land in Bashan, and to the other half of the tribe Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan along with their fellow Israelites.) When Joshua sent them home, he blessed them,saying,“ Return to your homes with your great wealth— with large herds of livestock, with silver, gold, bronze and iron, and a great quantity of clothing— and divide the plunder from your enemies with your fellow Israelites.”So the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the Israelites at Shiloh in Canaan to return to Gilead, their own land, which they had acquired in accordance with the command of the Lord through Moses. (niv)

But to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said,“ Remember the command that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you after he said,‘ The Lord your God will give you rest by giving you this land.’Your wives, your children and your livestock may stay in the land that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, ready for battle, must cross over ahead of your fellow Israelites. You are to help themuntil the Lord gives them rest, as he has done for you, and until they too have taken possession of the land the Lord your God is giving them. After that, you may go back and occupy your own land, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you east of the Jordan toward the sunrise.” (niv)
