But because of you the Lord was angry with me and would not listen to me.“ That is enough,” the Lord said.“ Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.

“ I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me,‘ You shall not cross the Jordan.’ (niv)

By the waters of Meribah they angered the Lord, and trouble came to Moses because of them;for they rebelled against the Spirit of God, and rash words came from Moses’ lips. (niv)

Then the Lord said to him,“ This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said,‘ I will give it to your descendants.’ I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it.” (niv)

David said to Solomon:“ My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the Lord my God.But this word of the Lord came to me:‘ You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my Name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.But you will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign. (niv)

This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites.Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.” (niv)

“ Go and tell my servant David,‘ This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in. (niv)

The Lord said to Moses,“ Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as he commanded him.He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them,“ Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron,“ Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” (niv)

Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. (niv)

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed,“ My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” (niv)

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Go up this mountain in the Abarim Range and see the land I have given the Israelites.After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was,for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before their eyes.”( These were the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.) He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. (niv)

King David rose to his feet and said:“ Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it.But God said to me,‘ You are not to build a house for my Name, because you are a warrior and have shed blood.’“ Yet the Lord, the God of Israel, chose me from my whole family to be king over Israel forever. He chose Judah as leader, and from the tribe of Judah he chose my family, and from my father’s sons he was pleased to make me king over all Israel. (niv)

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (niv)

“ You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them.“ Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”“ We can,” they answered. (niv)
