他們把奉到耶和華殿的銀子運出來的時候，希勒家祭司發現了耶和華藉摩西所傳的律法書。希勒家對沙番書記說：「我在耶和華殿裏發現了律法書。」希勒家把書遞給沙番。

希勒家大祭司對沙番書記說：「我在耶和華殿裏發現了律法書。」希勒家把書遞給沙番，沙番就讀了。沙番書記到王那裏，把這事回覆王說：「你的僕人已把殿裏所發現的銀子倒出來，交在管理耶和華殿督工的手裏了。」沙番書記又向王報告說：「希勒家祭司遞給我一卷書。」沙番就在王面前朗讀那書。王聽見律法書上的話，就撕裂衣服。

約櫃裏沒有別的，只有兩塊石版，就是以色列人出埃及地，耶和華與他們立約的時候，摩西在何烈山放在那裏的。
