It was not with our ancestors that the Lord made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today.

He didn’t make it only with our people of long ago. He also made it with us. In fact, he made it with all of us who are alive here today.

But I will confirm My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”

I will keep My covenant between Me and you, and your future offspring throughout their generations, as an everlasting covenant to be your God and the God of your offspring after you.

For I assure you: Many prophets and righteous people longed to see the things you see yet didn’t see them; to hear the things you hear yet didn’t hear them.

He remembers His covenant forever, the promise He ordained for a thousand generations—the covenant He made with Abraham, swore to Isaac,and confirmed to Jacob as a decree and to Israel as an everlasting covenant:

But finding fault with His people, He says: Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—not like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by their hands to lead them out of the land of Egypt. I disregarded them, says the Lord, because they did not continue in My covenant.

And I say this: The law, which came 430 years later, does not revoke a covenant that was previously ratified by God and cancel the promise.For if the inheritance is from the law, it is no longer from the promise; but God granted it to Abraham through the promise.Why then was the law given? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise was made would come. The law was put into effect through angels by means of a mediator.Now a mediator is not for just one person, but God is one.Is the law therefore contrary to God’s promises? Absolutely not! For if a law had been given that was able to give life, then righteousness would certainly be by the law.

They will be My people, and I will be their God.I will give them one heart and one way so that for their good and for the good of their descendants after them, they will fear Me always.“ I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never turn away from doing good to them, and I will put fear of Me in their hearts so they will never again turn away from Me.
