“ Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher.“ Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”

“ Meaningless! Everything is meaningless!” says the Teacher.“ Everything is completely meaningless! Nothing has any meaning.”

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

“ Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher,“ completely meaningless!”

“ Absolute futility,” says the Teacher.“ Absolute futility. Everything is futile.”

“ Futility of futilities,” says the Preacher,“ Futility of futilities! All is futility.”

“ Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher;“ Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.”

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; vanity of vanities, all is vanity.

“ Absolute futility,” says the Teacher.“ Absolute futility. Everything is futile.”

For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope (niv)

You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.“ Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be. (niv)

Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. (niv)

Surely the lowborn are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. (niv)

So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (niv)

And who knows whether that person will be wise or foolish? Yet they will have control over all the fruit of my toil into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless. (niv)

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. (niv)

To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (niv)

All their days their work is grief and pain; even at night their minds do not rest. This too is meaningless. (niv)

There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.“ For whom am I toiling,” he asked,“ and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” This too is meaningless— a miserable business! (niv)

Then I said to myself,“ The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being wise?” I said to myself,“ This too is meaningless.” (niv)

So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless. (niv)

And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (niv)

Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. (niv)

For a person may labor with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then they must leave all they own to another who has not toiled for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune. (niv)

However many years anyone may live, let them enjoy them all. But let them remember the days of darkness, for there will be many. Everything to come is meaningless. (niv)

There was no end to all the people who were before them. But those who came later were not pleased with the successor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (niv)

The more the words, the less the meaning, and how does that profit anyone? (niv)
