Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks.

When a person won’t work, the roof falls down. Because of hands that aren’t busy, the house leaks.

Through sloth the roof sinks in, and through indolence the house leaks.

Laziness leads to a sagging roof; idleness leads to a leaky house.

Because of laziness the roof caves in, and because of negligent hands the house leaks.

Through extreme laziness the rafters sag, and through idleness the house leaks.

我经过懒惰人的田地，走过无知人的葡萄园，看哪，它长满了荆棘，荨麻盖地面，石墙也坍塌了。我看见就留心思想，我看着就领受训诲。再睡片时，打盹片时，抱着双臂躺卧片时，你的贫穷就如盗贼来到，你的贫乏仿佛拿盾牌的人来临。

懒惰人因冬寒不去耕种，到收割时，他去寻找，一无所得。

正因这缘故，你们要分外地努力。有了信心，又要加上德行；有了德行，又要加上知识；有了知识，又要加上节制；有了节制，又要加上忍耐；有了忍耐，又要加上虔敬；有了虔敬，又要加上爱弟兄的心；有了爱弟兄的心，又要加上爱众人的心。你们有了这几样，再继续增长，就必使你们在认识我们的主耶稣基督上，不至于懒散和不结果子了。没有这几样的人就是瞎眼，是短视，忘了他过去的罪已经得了洁净。所以，弟兄们，要更加努力，使你们的蒙召和被选坚定不移。你们实行这几样，就永不失脚。

我们盼望你们各人都显出同样的热忱，一直到底，好达成所确信的指望。

懒惰人的欲望害死自己，因为他的手不肯做工；

因为贪食好酒的，必致贫穷，爱睡觉的，必穿破烂衣服。

殷勤人的手必掌权；懒惰的人必服苦役。
