Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks.

When a person won’t work, the roof falls down. Because of hands that aren’t busy, the house leaks.

Through sloth the roof sinks in, and through indolence the house leaks.

Laziness leads to a sagging roof; idleness leads to a leaky house.

Because of laziness the roof caves in, and because of negligent hands the house leaks.

Through extreme laziness the rafters sag, and through idleness the house leaks.

婦人的智慧建立家室；愚昧卻親手拆毀它。

我經過懶惰人的田地，走過無知人的葡萄園，看哪，它長滿了荊棘，蕁麻蓋地面，石牆也坍塌了。我看見就留心思想，我看着就領受訓誨。再睡片時，打盹片時，抱着雙臂躺臥片時，你的貧窮就如盜賊來到，你的貧乏彷彿拿盾牌的人來臨。

懶惰人因冬寒不去耕種，到收割時，他去尋找，一無所得。

正因這緣故，你們要分外地努力。有了信心，又要加上德行；有了德行，又要加上知識；有了知識，又要加上節制；有了節制，又要加上忍耐；有了忍耐，又要加上虔敬；有了虔敬，又要加上愛弟兄的心；有了愛弟兄的心，又要加上愛眾人的心。你們有了這幾樣，再繼續增長，就必使你們在認識我們的主耶穌基督上，不至於懶散和不結果子了。沒有這幾樣的人就是瞎眼，是短視，忘了他過去的罪已經得了潔淨。所以，弟兄們，要更加努力，使你們的蒙召和被選堅定不移。你們實行這幾樣，就永不失腳。

我們盼望你們各人都顯出同樣的熱忱，一直到底，好達成所確信的指望。

懶惰人的慾望害死自己，因為他的手不肯做工；

因為貪食好酒的，必致貧窮，愛睡覺的，必穿破爛衣服。

殷勤人的手必掌權；懶惰的人必服苦役。
