彼所率之民無數、而後人又不悅之、此亦屬於虛、亦如捕風、○

君遂命僕繫其手足、執而投於外幽暗之地、在彼必有哀哭切齒、

必自光明見逐於黑暗、必被驅出乎世界、

惡人雖百次行惡、仍享遐齡、然我知敬畏天主者、在天主前存敬畏心者、終得享福、

此實大患、其來若是、其去亦若是、勞碌無益、如捕風耳、終身度日於黑暗中、多煩惱、多病患、多病患或作多憂傷多愁苦、

爾得福之日可喜樂、遭難之日當思慮、天主使二者、迭相乘除、未來之事、人不能預料、○

惟人死則滅、人氣絕則安在、

其人或智或愚、尚未可知、我在日下、用智慧勞碌所得者、竟為彼所轄、此亦屬於虛、

有人以智慧、知識、精明、精明或作技能勞碌經營、將所得者、遺於未勞之人為業、此亦屬於虛、甚為不美、人在日下、碌碌勞心、有何所得、終日憂愁、諸事煩惱、其心夜亦不安、此亦屬於虛、

有人獨處無子、無兄弟、然亦勞碌不已、雖得多財、目中不以為足、亦不自問曰、我不自享所得、我勞碌究為誰耶、此亦屬於虛、徒勞無益、

事多則虛浮必多、於人何益、

我自思曰、原文作我心中曰不如試宴樂、享安逸、乃知此亦屬於虛、我言嬉笑為狂、宴樂何為、我又自思、我且飲酒以樂我身、心仍導以智慧、又執守愚拙、直至我得見人生在世、人生在世原文作人在天下終身行何事為美、於是廣興工作、建造屋宇、植葡萄園、立園囿、栽各類果木於其中、掘池沼、以灌林樹、購奴婢、亦有生於家之奴婢、又有牛羊眾多、勝於先我居耶路撒冷者、又積貯金銀、與列王諸國之珍寶、又得歌男歌女、及世人所樂者、以及妃嬪、如是我甚昌大、一切無不增加、如是我甚昌大一切無不增加或作我日以昌大勝於先我居耶路撒冷者、然我之智慧猶存、不禁我目欲所欲者、不禁我心樂所樂者、蓋我思我既勞碌操作、我心享樂、宜也、此我由我一切勞碌所獲之分、厥後我觀我手所經營一切、及我所勞碌而得者、乃知皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、在日下毫無所益、○

爾當歸榮於主爾之天主、否則速即幽暗、俾爾顛蹶於晦冥之山、爾望光明、乃變為陰翳、變為昏黑、

流離求食、無處可得、自知幽暗之日、為之而備、

耶穌曰、片時光尚偕爾、乘有光當行、恐暗忽臨、行於暗者、不知所往、

為幽暗晦冥之日、密雲黑雲之日、異族將至、既強且眾、勢若晨光、鋪於山巔、自古以來、未有若是者、斯後及於世世、亦必無有若是者、

我知世人終身、惟有喜樂與行善為美、第人能食飲、能享勞碌所得者、亦為天主所賜、

我厭惡生命、因我見日下所作之事、皆不善、皆屬於虛、皆如捕風、
