願其有智而知此、思念厥終、

以我觀之、上帝使人一生操作、式飲式食、安享其成、豈不甚美。上帝賜人以貲財、供其食用、既勞而得之、當逸而享之、蓋上帝使人欣喜、已往者不縈其心、未來者不攖其慮。

其地昏黑幽暗、陰翳混沌、其光不光。

及其為君、從者無數、而後人卒不頌其美、此亦捕風捉影之事也。

上帝所悅者、賜以智慧歡樂、若惡人則勞苦之、以其所積貨財、賜於善良、凡百之事、無非捕風捉影、以此益見矣。

君語僕曰、繫其手足、執而逐於絕域幽暗、彼有哀哭切齒者矣、

推而納之幽暗之地、逐而出之寰區之外。

作惡之人、屢蹈罪愆、反享遐齡、然吾知寅畏上帝者、終必受厥綏祉、

蓋裸而出世、必裸而歸土、所勤勞而得者、毫不能攜。良可憫也、其入世若是、其逝世亦若是、捕風無益、徒勞而已。

福來可喜、禍至可慮、上帝使二者迭相倚伏、俾人不能逆料。

人則異是、始則血衰、既而氣絕、歸於無有。

子孫智愚、難以逆料、惟我竭其心思、勞苦畢生、彼得而主之、豈不盡屬於虛哉。

人之勞心力、運智謀、凡事亨通、後人逸而得之、盡屬於虛、大可憫也。人生於世、辛勤憂慼、何益之有、終日勞苦、終夜不安、亦屬於虛。

有人塊然獨處、無兄弟子女、不與友朋交接、然亦勞苦不已、雖得貨財、不以為足、不敢自用、不知遺誰、此屬於虛、更貽後患。

辯論愈煩、則艱難叢集、果何益之有。

我竊自維、試耽宴樂、試樂逸遊、明知歸於無有。我言嬉戲惟狂、宴樂無益。我姑以酒為懽、若無智然、而仍不敢失度、庶知人生在世、最樂者何事。於是興工作、建屋宇、作園囿、種葡萄、栽百果、

爾之上帝耶和華、宜虔共寅畏、否則使爾幽暗、顛躓於晦冥之岡、爾所望之光、變為陰翳昏黑。

流離求食、而無所得、禍患將至、而不及知。

耶穌曰、光與爾在暫耳、有光則行、恐暗忽至、暗行者不知所往、

是日晦冥、幽深玄遠、異族將至、既強且眾、有若黎明、豁然開朗、自古迄今、至於後世、未有若是之甚、

年當少壯、必及時敬造化之主、宜憶勿忘、斯時也、患難憂愁之日尚未至。既屆其期、日月星辰必晦其光、雲遮靉靆、雨降淋漓。守室者必戰慄、有力者必卷曲、旋磨者寡而缺、窺牖者昏而黑、通衢之門已閉、旋磨之聲不聞、鳥鳴而寢即起、謳歌而音不揚、不敢登高、行於途中亦多畏葸、以杏核為可厭、以蟿蟲為重物、生平嗜好、百無一存、人歸窀穸、哀者行於衢。

以我觀之、人在斯世、莫若為善而享福。上帝賜人、勤勞而得之、式飲式食、安享其成。

季世必有姍笑我道者、自狥私欲、

斯世所為、殷憂慼慼、莫非捕風捉影、故我不樂其生。

竊思愚者死、智者亦死、雖智何益、豈非虛哉。

吝者生於世、雖永壽二千年、未嘗一日厚於自奉、其後與眾同歸一邱。

我又曰、上帝使人勤於操作、無少休息、莫若耽飲食、樂宴樂之為美。
