I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owners,

I’ve seen something very evil on earth. It’s when wealth is stored up and then brings harm to its owners.

There is another serious problem I have seen under the sun. Hoarding riches harms the saver.

There is a sickening tragedy I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.

He asked the first,‘ How much do you owe my master?’“‘ Nine hundred gallons of olive oil,’ he replied.“ The manager told him,‘ Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred and fifty.’“ Then he asked the second,‘ And how much do you owe?’“‘ A thousand bushels of wheat,’ he replied.“ He told him,‘ Take your bill and make it eight hundred.’“ The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.“ Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?“ No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” (niv)

Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain; it takes away the life of those who get it. (niv)

Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. (niv)

Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab; he is the father of the Moabites of today.The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the Ammonites of today. For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; (niv)

If they say,“ Come along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul;let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder; (niv)

He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot and his possessions, together with the women and the other people. (niv)

But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. (niv)

For fools speak folly, their hearts are bent on evil: They practice ungodliness and spread error concerning the Lord; the hungry they leave empty and from the thirsty they withhold water.Scoundrels use wicked methods, they make up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just.But the noble make noble plans, and by noble deeds they stand. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. (niv)

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (niv)

In that day people will throw away to the moles and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship. (niv)

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,“ Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” (niv)

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong? (niv)
