愚人的笑聲像鍋底下燒荊棘的噼啪聲。這也是虛空。

愚昧人的笑聲，就像鍋底下荊棘的爆聲一樣。這也是虛空。

鍋底下荊棘的爆裂聲怎麼樣，愚頑人的笑聲也怎麼樣：這也是虛空。

因為愚昧人的笑聲，好像熱鍋下面荊棘的爆聲。這也是虛空！

愚者之笑、猶釜底焚荊棘之聲、斯亦虛空、

愚人之笑、如荊棘、為爨火所焚、莫非捕風也。

愚者之笑聲、猶荊棘焚於釜下之聲、此亦屬於虛、

Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless.

A foolish person’s laughter is like the crackling of thorns burning under a pot. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fools; this also is vanity.

A fool’s laughter is quickly gone, like thorns crackling in a fire. This also is meaningless.

They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

If a wise man contends with a foolish man, Whether the fool rages or laughs, there is no peace.

I will turn your feasts into mourning, And all your songs into lamentation; I will bring sackcloth on every waist, And baldness on every head; I will make it like mourning for an only son, And its end like a bitter day.

Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep.
