天下事可為長太息者、有時義人遭難、幾同惡人、惡人蒙休、有類義人、我則曰、此屬於虛。

世間更有一患事、即有善人遭惡人所當遭者、有惡人遇善人所當遇者、我則曰、此亦屬於虛、

There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless.

Here’s something else on this earth that doesn’t have any meaning. Sometimes godly people get what sinful people should receive. And sinful people get what godly people should receive. Here’s what I’m telling you. That doesn’t have any meaning either.

There is a vanity that takes place on earth, that there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked, and there are wicked people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

And this is not all that is meaningless in our world. In this life, good people are often treated as though they were wicked, and wicked people are often treated as though they were good. This is so meaningless!

There is a futility that is done on the earth: there are righteous people who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked people who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is futile.

There is futility which is done on the earth, that is, there are righteous people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the wicked. On the other hand, there are evil people to whom it happens according to the deeds of the righteous. I say that this too is futility.

There is a vanity which occurs on earth, that there are just men to whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happens according to the work of the righteous. I said that this also is vanity.

There is a vanity which is done upon the earth, that there are righteous men unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

在虚度的日子里，我见过各样的事情，义人在他的义中灭亡，恶人在他的恶中倒享长寿。

智慧人的眼目光明，愚昧人却在黑暗里行。但我知道他们都有相同的遭遇。

现在，我们称狂傲的人为有福，并且行恶的人得以建立；他们虽然试探神，却得以逃脱。”

恶人为何存活，得享高寿，势力强盛呢？

因为我嫉妒狂傲的人，我看见恶人享平安。

我将这一切事放在心上，详细研究这些，就知道义人和智慧人，并他们的作为都在神手中；或是爱，或是恨，都在他们面前，但人不能知道。凡临到众人的际遇都一样：义人和恶人，好人，洁净的人和不洁净的人，献祭的和不献祭的，都一样。好人如何，罪人也如何；起誓的如何，怕起誓的也如何。在日光之下发生的一切事中有一件祸患，就是众人的际遇都一样，并且世人的心充满了恶；活着的时候心里狂妄，后来就归死人那里去了。

看哪，这就是恶人，他们常享安逸，财宝增多。我实在徒然洁净了我的心，徒然洗手表明我的无辜，因为我终日遭灾难，每日早晨受惩治。

有人孤单无双，无子无兄弟，竟劳碌不息，眼目也不以财富为满足。他说：“我劳碌，自己却不享福，到底是为了谁呢？”这也是虚空，是极沉重的担子。

“恶人的灯何尝熄灭？患难何尝临到他们呢？神何尝发怒，把灾祸分给他们呢？他们何尝像风前的碎秸，如暴风刮去的糠秕呢？神为恶人的儿女积蓄罪孽，不如本人遭报，好使他亲自知道。愿他亲眼看见自己败亡，亲自饮全能者的愤怒。他的岁月既尽，他身后还顾他的家吗？谁能将知识教导神呢？是他审判那些居高位的。有人至死身体强壮，尽得平顺安逸；他的肚腹充满奶汁，他的骨髓滋润。有人至死心中痛苦，从未尝过福乐的滋味；他们同样躺卧于尘土，虫子覆盖他们。“看哪，我知道你们的意念，并残害我的计谋。你们说：‘权贵的房屋在哪里？恶人住过的帐棚在哪里？’你们没有询问那些过路的人吗？你们不承认他们的证据吗？就是恶人在患难的日子得存留，在愤怒的日子得逃脱。他所行的，有谁当面给他说明？他所做的，有谁报应他呢？然而他要被抬到坟地，并有人看守墓穴。他要以谷中的土块为甘甜；人人要跟在他后面，在他前面去的无数。你们怎能以空话安慰我呢？你们的对答全都错谬！”

“他与不怀孕不生育的妇人交往，却不善待寡妇。然而神用能力保全有势力的人；那性命难保的人仍然兴起。神使他安稳，他就有所倚靠；神的眼目看顾他们的道路。他们高升，不过片刻就没有了；他们降为卑，被除灭，与众人一样，又如谷的穗子被割下。若不是这样，谁能指证我是说谎的，以我的言语为毫无根据呢？”

我见日光之下有一件祸患，似乎出于统治者的错误，

耶和华啊，我与你争辩的时候，你总是显为义；但有一件，我还要与你理论：恶人的道路为何亨通呢？大行诡诈的为何得安逸呢？

我见人因彼此嫉妒而有一切的劳碌和各样工作的成就，这也是虚空，也是捕风。

所以我说，都是一样；完全人和恶人，他都灭绝。若灾祸忽然带来死亡，他必戏笑无辜人的苦难。世界交在恶人手中；他蒙蔽世界审判官的脸，若不是他，那么是谁呢？
