As no one has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has power over the time of their death. As no one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.

No one can stop the wind from blowing. And no one has the power to decide when they will die. No one is let out of the army in times of war. And evil won’t let go of those who practice it.

None of us can hold back our spirit from departing. None of us has the power to prevent the day of our death. There is no escaping that obligation, that dark battle. And in the face of death, wickedness will certainly not rescue the wicked.

No one has authority over the wind to restrain it, and there is no authority over the day of death; no one is discharged during battle, and wickedness will not allow those who practice it to escape.

No one has authority over the wind to restrain the wind, nor authority over the day of death; and there is no military discharge in the time of war, and evil will not save those who practice it.

Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass,

Because you have said,“ We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement, when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment,

The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing, but the righteous finds refuge in his death.

What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah

For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.

The wicked shall return to Sheol, all the nations that forget God.

those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life,for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice,that he should live on forever and never see the pit.

Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin.How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors!Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms.When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart,I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you.Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.

Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it.

If he should set his heart to it and gather to himself his spirit and his breath,

We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God will not take away life, and he devises means so that the banished one will not remain an outcast.

But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. SelahThe righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,“ See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”

So they went after them as far as the Jordan, and behold, all the way was littered with garments and equipment that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth?

“ When you go out to war against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own, you shall not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the peopleand shall say to them,‘ Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them,for the Lord your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’Then the officers shall speak to the people, saying,‘ Is there any man who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go back to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it.And is there any man who has planted a vineyard and has not enjoyed its fruit? Let him go back to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man enjoy its fruit.And is there any man who has betrothed a wife and has not taken her? Let him go back to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man take her.’And the officers shall speak further to the people, and say,‘ Is there any man who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, lest he make the heart of his fellows melt like his own.’
