All share a common destiny— the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good, so with the sinful; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them.

Everyone will die someday. Death comes to godly and sinful people alike. It comes to good and bad people alike. It comes to“ clean” and“ unclean” people alike. Those who offer sacrifices and those who don’t offer them also die. A good person dies, and so does a sinner. Those who make promises die. So do those who are afraid to make them.

It is the same for all, since the same event happens to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As the good one is, so is the sinner, and he who swears is as he who shuns an oath.

The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone, whether righteous or wicked, good or bad, ceremonially clean or unclean, religious or irreligious. Good people receive the same treatment as sinners, and people who make promises to God are treated like people who don’t.

The wise man’s eyes[ are] in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also[ is] vanity.For[ there is] no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now[ is] in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise[ man]? as the fool.

This[ is] one[ thing], therefore I said[ it], He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in[ his] wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger[ from his right], and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

For I was envious at the foolish,[ when] I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

And the men said unto her, We[ will be] blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.Behold,[ when] we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.And it shall be,[ that] whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood[ shall be] upon his head, and we[ will be] guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood[ shall be] on our head, if[ any] hand be upon him.And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

[ It is] good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.

Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his[ days] be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong[ his] days,[ which are] as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just[ men], unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked[ men], to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also[ is] vanity.

For[ God] giveth to a man that[ is] good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to[ him that is] good before God. This also[ is] vanity and vexation of spirit.

[ It is] better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that[ is] the end of all men; and the living will lay[ it] to his heart.

Then said he unto me, This[ is] the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off[ as] on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off[ as] on that side according to it.I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof.

Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.Their houses[ are] safe from fear, neither[ is] the rod of God upon them.Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.What[ is] the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?Lo, their good[ is] not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and[ how oft] cometh their destruction upon them![ God] distributeth sorrows in his anger.They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know[ it].His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.For what pleasure[ hath] he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?Shall[ any] teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices[ which] ye wrongfully imagine against me.For ye say, Where[ is] the house of the prince? and where[ are] the dwelling places of the wicked?Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him[ what] he hath done?Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as[ there are] innumerable before him.How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?

Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these[ things], he shall not escape.Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD;[ As] I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.

And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

Yea, though he live a thousand years twice[ told], yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place?

And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea,[ they that] tempt God are even delivered.

And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.

And when the people were come into the wood, behold, the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.
