Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.

Haman went out that day happy and in high spirits. But when he saw Mordecai at the king’s gate and observed that he neither rose nor showed fear in his presence, he was filled with rage against Mordecai.

That day Haman was happy. So he left the palace in a good mood. But then he saw Mordecai at the palace gate. He noticed that Mordecai didn’t stand up when he walked by. In fact, Mordecai didn’t have any respect for him at all. So he was very angry with him.

And Haman went out that day joyful and glad of heart. But when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he neither rose nor trembled before him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai.

Then Nebuchadnezzar in[ his] rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

Shall horses run upon the rock? will[ one] plow[ there] with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

That the triumphing of the wicked[ is] short, and the joy of the hypocrite[ but] for a moment?

Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we[ are] not careful to answer thee in this matter.If it be[ so], our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver[ us] out of thine hand, O king.But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego:[ therefore] he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king’s gate.

In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD.[ He that] sweareth to[ his own] hurt, and changeth not.

And all the king’s servants, that[ were] in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did[ him] reverence.

Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this[ will] I[ be] confident.

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and[ your] joy to heaviness.

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with[ their] teeth.
