Now the Israelites had done as Moses told them– they had requested from the Egyptians silver and gold items and clothing.The LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, and they gave them whatever they wanted, and so they plundered Egypt.

I dressed you in embroidered clothing and put fine leather sandals on your feet. I wrapped you with fine linen and covered you with silk.I adorned you with jewelry. I put bracelets on your hands and a necklace around your neck.I put a ring in your nose, earrings on your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.You were adorned with gold and silver, while your clothing was of fine linen, silk, and embroidery. You ate the finest flour, honey, and olive oil. You became extremely beautiful and attained the position of royalty.

If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay,what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver.

So Aaron said to them,“ Break off the gold earrings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.”So all the people broke off the gold earrings that were on their ears and brought them to Aaron.He accepted the gold from them, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molten calf. Then they said,“ These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

He brought his people out enriched with silver and gold; none of his tribes stumbled.

They came, men and women alike, all who had willing hearts. They brought brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments, all kinds of gold jewelry, and everyone came who waved a wave offering of gold to the LORD.

‘ The silver and gold will be mine,’ says the LORD who rules over all.

So I said to them,‘ Whoever has gold, break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”

Am I not permitted to do what I want with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?’

The LORD owns the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live in it.

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,“ This month is to be your beginning of months; it will be your first month of the year.
