Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the Israelites swear an oath. He had said,“ God will surely come to your aid, and then you must carry my bones up with you from this place.”

约瑟对他的兄弟们说：“我快要死了，但神必定眷顾你们，领你们从这地上到他起誓应许给亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各之地去。”约瑟又叫以色列的子孙起誓，说：“神必定眷顾你们，那时你们要把我的骸骨从这里带上去应许之地。”

以色列人从埃及带出来的约瑟骸骨，葬在示剑的一块田里；这块田是雅各从前用一百块银子向示剑的父亲哈抹的子孙那里买来的；这块田就成了约瑟子孙的产业。

运到示剑，埋葬在亚伯拉罕用银子向哈抹子孙买来的坟地里。

人民就相信了；他们听见耶和华眷顾以色列人，也鉴察了他们的痛苦，就俯伏敬拜。

邻里亲戚，听见主向她大施怜悯，都和她一同欢乐。

以色列又对约瑟说：“看哪，我快要死了，但是神必与你们同在，必领你们回到你们祖先的土地去。

众人都惊惧，颂赞神说：“有伟大的先知在我们中间兴起来了！”又说：“神眷顾他的子民了！”
