他們拔營起行的時候，日間總有耶和華的雲彩在他們上頭。

你還是因著你豐盛的憐憫，沒有把他們撇棄在曠野；日間雲柱沒有離開他們，仍然在路上引導他們；夜間火柱也沒有離開他們，還是光照他們要行的路。

在以色列營前行走的神的使者，轉到他們後面去；雲柱也從他們前面轉過去，立在他們後面。雲柱來到埃及營和以色列營中間；雲柱一邊是黑暗的，一邊卻光照著黑夜。這樣整夜彼此都不能接近。摩西向海伸手，耶和華就用極強的東風，一夜之間使海水退去；他使海變成乾地，海水也分開了。以色列人下到海中走乾地，水在他們的左右作了牆垣。埃及人追趕過來，法老所有的馬匹、馬車和馬兵，都跟著以色列人下到海中去。到了晨更的時候，耶和華透過雲柱火柱向下觀看埃及人的軍兵，並且使埃及人的軍兵大起混亂。

摩西進會幕的時候，就有雲柱降下來，停在會幕門口上面；耶和華就與摩西談話。全體的人民看見了雲柱停在會幕門口上面，就都起來，各人在自己帳幕的門口下拜。

當時，有雲彩遮蓋會幕，耶和華的榮耀充滿了帳幕。摩西不能進入會幕，因為雲彩停在會幕上面，並且耶和華的榮耀充滿著帳幕。在以色列人所有的旅程中是這樣的：每逢雲彩從帳幕收上去的時候，他們就起程；雲彩若是不收上去，他們就不起程，直到雲彩收上去的日子為止。因為以色列人所有的旅程中，日間有耶和華的雲彩在帳幕上，夜間雲中有火，顯在以色列全家的眼前。

然後，耶和華必在錫安全山之上，並會眾之上，在日間創造雲和煙，夜間創造有火燄的光亮，因為在一切榮耀之上，必有遮蓋。也必有亭子，日間可以使人得陰涼、避炎熱，也可以作避難時藏身之所，或作躲避狂風暴雨之處。
