雖然約押沒有擁護押沙龍，卻擁護了亞多尼雅；這消息傳到約押那裏，他就逃到耶和華的帳幕，抓住祭壇的翹角。

就宰了公牛。摩西取了血，用指頭抹在祭壇周圍的四個翹角上，使壇潔淨，再把其餘的血倒在壇的底座上，使壇成為聖，為壇贖罪。

他出來後，要到耶和華面前的祭壇那裏，為壇贖罪。他要取一些公牛的血和公山羊的血，抹在壇周圍的四個翹角上。

祭司要用手指蘸一些贖罪祭牲的血，抹在燔祭壇的四個翹角上，再把其餘的血倒在燔祭壇的底座上。

又要把一些血抹在會幕內，耶和華面前壇的四個翹角上，再把其餘的血全倒在會幕門口燔祭壇的底座上。

要把那些犯罪自喪己命之人的香爐錘成薄片，用以包祭壇；因為這些本是他們在耶和華面前獻過，分別為聖的，可以給以色列人作記號。」於是以利亞撒祭司把被燒死的人所獻的銅香爐拿來；它們被錘出來，用以包壇，

當日，王因耶和華殿前的銅壇太小，容不下燔祭、素祭和平安祭牲的脂肪，就將耶和華殿前院子的中間分別為聖，在那裏獻燔祭、素祭和平安祭牲的脂肪。
