“ When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.

人實在不能救贖弟兄，也不能把他的贖價交給神，

就像人子來不是為了受人的服事，而是為了服事人，並且獻上自己的生命，替許多人做救贖的代價。」

因為你們知道，你們被救贖，脫離祖先所傳下來的虛妄行為，不是憑著會朽壞的東西，如銀子或金子，而是憑著那像羔羊一樣毫無瑕疵、毫無玷汙的基督寶血。

耶和華的怒氣又向以色列人發作，於是他針對他們激動大衛說，去數點以色列人和猶大人。王就對隨同他的將軍約押說：「你去走遍以色列的各支派，從但直到比爾-謝巴，數點軍兵，我好知道軍兵的數目。」約押對王說：「願耶和華你的神使軍兵增添到現在的一百倍，讓我主我王親眼看見。我主我王何必想做這事呢？」但王的命令比約押和將領們的意見更強硬，約押和將領們就從王面前出去，數點以色列的軍兵。他們渡過約旦河，在亞羅珥城南邊的溪谷中紮營，又前往迦得的雅謝；他們來到基列，又前往塔停-赫示地區；他們來到但-雅安，又繞到西頓；然後到了提爾的堡壘，以及希未人和迦南人的所有城市，最後前往猶大南地的比爾-謝巴。他們這樣走遍全地，經過九個月零二十天，回到了耶路撒冷。約押把軍兵的統計數目呈報王：以色列人中拿刀劍的勇士有八十萬，猶大人中有五十萬。大衛數點軍兵之後，心中自責。大衛對耶和華說：「我做這事，犯了大罪！現在，耶和華啊，求你除去你僕人的罪孽，因我做了極其愚蠢的事！」大衛清晨起來，耶和華的話臨到先知迦得，就是大衛的先見，說：「你去告訴大衛：『耶和華如此說：我給你三樣災，你從其中挑選一個，我就降在你身上。』」迦得就來見大衛，向他傳告說：「你要國中遭受饑荒七年，或被敵人追逼逃亡三個月，還是國中有瘟疫三天呢？現在你要想好，看看我應該怎樣回話給派遣我來的那一位。」大衛對迦得說：「這使我非常為難！還是讓我們落在耶和華手中吧，因為他有豐盛的憐憫；請不要讓我落在人的手中。」於是耶和華從清晨直到所定的時候，在以色列降下瘟疫，百姓中間從但到比爾-謝巴死了七萬人。

他獻上自己，替所有的人做救贖的代價；在所定的時候，這事要被見證出來。

要知道，就是人子來，也不是為了受人的服事，而是為了服事人，並且獻上自己的生命，替許多人做救贖的代價。」
