以色列人在旷野的时候，发现有人在安息日捡柴，他们就把捡柴的人带到摩西、亚伦和全体会众那里，把他关起来，因为不知道如何处置他。耶和华对摩西说：“必须处死那人，全体会众要在营外用石头打死他。”于是，全体会众照耶和华对摩西的吩咐，把他拉到营外，用石头打死了他。

人违犯摩西的律法，经两三个人指证后，尚且被毫不留情地处死，更何况人践踏上帝的儿子，轻看那使人圣洁的立约之血，又藐视赐人恩典的圣灵？这等人该受多么重的刑罚啊！

因为耶稣在安息日给人治病，犹太人开始迫害祂。

既然借天使传下来的话正确无误，凡干犯、违背的人都受到了应有的报应，我们若忽略了这么大的救恩，怎能逃避惩罚呢？这救恩首先由主亲口宣讲出来，后来由听见的人向我们证实了。

“‘要遵照你的上帝耶和华的吩咐守安息日为圣日。你一周可工作六天，但第七天是你的上帝耶和华的安息日，你和儿女、仆婢、牛驴等牲畜以及你那里的外族人在这一天不可做任何工，好让仆婢和你一样得到休息。要记住，你曾在埃及做奴隶，你的上帝耶和华伸出臂膀，用大能的手把你从那里领出来。因此，你的上帝耶和华吩咐你守安息日。
