亚伦的儿子以利亚撒也死了，他们把他葬在他儿子非尼哈所得以法莲山区的小山上。

亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈看见了，就从会众中起来，手里拿着枪，跟这以色列人进入帐棚，刺穿了二人，就是以色列人和那女子的肚腹。这样，以色列人遭受的瘟疫就停止了。遭瘟疫死的，有二万四千人。耶和华吩咐摩西说：“亚伦祭司的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈，使我的愤怒转离以色列人，因为在他们中间，他以我的妒忌为他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毁灭以色列人。因此，你要说：‘看哪，我将我平安的约赐给他。这是他和他的后裔永远当祭司职任的约，因他为了上帝而妒忌，他为以色列人赎罪。’”

以色列人派以利亚撒祭司的儿子非尼哈，往基列地，到吕便人、迦得人和玛拿西半支派的人那里。

以利亚撒祭司的儿子非尼哈对吕便人、迦得人、玛拿西人说：“今日我们知道耶和华在我们中间，因为你们没有向他犯悖逆的罪。现在你们把以色列人从耶和华的手中救出来了。”以利亚撒祭司的儿子非尼哈与众领袖离开了吕便人和迦得人，从基列地回迦南地，到了以色列人那里，就把这事向他们回报。

那时，非尼哈起而干预，瘟疫这才止息。那就算他为义，世世代代，直到永远。

摩西派他们去打仗，每支派一千人；又派以利亚撒祭司的儿子非尼哈同去；非尼哈手里拿着圣所的器皿和吹号的号筒。

那时，亚伦的孙子，以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈侍立在约柜前。他们说：“我可以再出去与我弟兄便雅悯人打仗吗？还是停战呢？”耶和华说：“你们可以上去，因为明日我必把他交在你手中。”
