有一个人名叫西门，从前在城里行过邪术，使撒玛利亚的居民惊奇，他又自命不凡，城里大大小小都听从他，说：“这就是那称为‘神的大能’的人。”他们听从他，因为他长久用邪术，使他们惊奇。等到腓利向他们传了神的国的福音，和耶稣基督的名，他们就信了腓利，连男带女都受了洗。连西门自己也信了，他受洗之后，常和腓利在一起，看见所发生的神迹和大能的事，就觉得很惊奇。

众术士因为生了疮的缘故，不能站在摩西的面前；因为众术士和所有埃及人身上都生了疮。

但术士以吕马（以吕马就是“术士”的意思）与使徒作对，要使省长转离真道。扫罗，也就是保罗，却被圣灵充满，定睛看着他，说：“你这充满各样诡诈和各样奸恶的人，魔鬼的儿子，公义的仇敌！你歪曲了主的正路，还不停止吗？你看，现在主的手临到你，你要瞎了眼睛，暂时看不见阳光。”他就立刻被雾和黑暗笼罩着，周围找人牵他的手，给他领路。

众术士也用他们的巫术照样行，要生出虱子来，却不能办到；所以在人身上和牲畜身上都有虱子。众术士就对法老说：“这是神的手指头。”法老却心里刚硬，不肯听摩西和亚伦，就像耶和华所说的。

又有许多行巫术的人，把他们的书堆在一起当众烧掉。他们估计书价，才知道共值五万块银子。这样，主的道大有能力地兴旺起来，而且得胜。
