Then the glory of the Lord departed from over the threshold of the temple and stopped above the cherubim.

He mounted a winged angel and flew; he glided on the wings of the wind.

God has countless chariots; they number in the thousands. The Lord comes from Sinai in holy splendor.You ascend on high, you have taken many captives. You receive tribute from men, including even sinful rebels. Indeed the LORD God lives there!

He abandoned the sanctuary at Shiloh, the tent where he lived among men.He allowed the symbol of his strong presence to be captured; he gave the symbol of his splendor into the hand of the enemy.

When he drove the man out, he placed on the eastern side of the orchard in Eden angelic sentries who used the flame of a whirling sword to guard the way to the tree of life.

( The cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court.)Then the glory of the LORD arose from the cherub and moved to the threshold of the temple. The temple was filled with the cloud while the court was filled with the brightness of the LORD’s glory.

“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!Look, your house is left to you desolate!For I tell you, you will not see me from now until you say,‘ Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

They rendered the beauty of his ornaments into pride, and with it they made their abominable images– their detestable idols. Therefore I will render it filthy to them.I will give it to foreigners as loot, to the world’s wicked ones as plunder, and they will desecrate it.I will turn my face away from them and they will desecrate my treasured place. Vandals will enter it and desecrate it.

Even if they raise their children, I will take away every last one of them. Woe to them! For I will turn away from them.

So, go to the place in Shiloh where I allowed myself to be worshiped in the early days. See what I did to it because of the wicked things my people Israel did.You also have done all these things, says the LORD, and I have spoken to you over and over again. But you have not listened! You have refused to respond when I called you to repent!So I will destroy this temple which I have claimed as my own, this temple that you are trusting to protect you. I will destroy this place that I gave to you and your ancestors, just like I destroyed Shiloh.

So take warning, Jerusalem, or I will abandon you in disgust and make you desolate, a place where no one can live.”

As they were walking along and talking, suddenly a fiery chariot pulled by fiery horses appeared. They went between Elijah and Elisha, and Elijah went up to heaven in a windstorm.
