I will sing about the one I love, a song about my loved one’s vineyard: The one I love had a vineyard on a very fertile hill.He broke up the soil, cleared it of stones, and planted it with the finest vines. He built a tower in the middle of it and even dug out a winepress there. He expected it to yield good grapes, but it yielded worthless grapes.So now, residents of Jerusalem and men of Judah, please judge between me and my vineyard.What more could I have done for my vineyard than I did? Why, when I expected a yield of good grapes, did it yield worthless grapes?Now I will tell you what I am about to do to my vineyard: I will remove its hedge, and it will be consumed; I will tear down its wall, and it will be trampled.I will make it a wasteland. It will not be pruned or weeded; thorns and briers will grow up. I will also give orders to the clouds that rain should not fall on it.For the vineyard of the LORD of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah, the plant he delighted in. He expected justice but saw injustice; he expected righteousness but heard cries of despair.

Israel is a lush vine; it yields fruit for itself. The more his fruit increased, the more he increased the altars. The better his land produced, the better they made the sacred pillars.

You dug up a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.You cleared a place for it; it took root and filled the land.The mountains were covered by its shade, and the mighty cedars with its branches.It sent out sprouts toward the Sea and shoots toward the River.Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its fruit?Boars from the forest tear at it and creatures of the field feed on it.Return, God of Armies. Look down from heaven and see; take care of this vine,the root your right hand planted, the son that you made strong for yourself.It was cut down and burned; they perish at the rebuke of your countenance.

I planted you, a choice vine from the very best seed. How then could you turn into a degenerate, foreign vine?

I came down to the walnut grove to see the blossoms of the valley, to see if the vines were budding and the pomegranates blooming.

Now he began to tell the people this parable:“ A man planted a vineyard, leased it to tenant farmers, and went away for a long time.At harvest time he sent a servant to the farmers so that they might give him some fruit from the vineyard. But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty-handed.He sent yet another servant, but they beat that one too, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.And he sent yet a third, but they wounded this one too and threw him out.“ Then the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What should I do? I will send my beloved son. Perhaps they will respect him.’“ But when the tenant farmers saw him, they discussed it among themselves and said,‘ This is the heir. Let’s kill him, so that the inheritance will be ours.’So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.“ What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?He will come and kill those farmers and give the vineyard to others.” But when they heard this they said,“ That must never happen!”

“ I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.Remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch is unable to produce fruit by itself unless it remains on the vine, neither can you unless you remain in me.I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without me.If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown aside like a branch and he withers. They gather them, throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

Catch the foxes for us— the little foxes that ruin the vineyards— for our vineyards are in bloom.

Let’s go early to the vineyards; let’s see if the vine has budded, if the blossom has opened, if the pomegranates are in bloom. There I will give you my caresses.

Solomon owned a vineyard in Baal-hamon. He leased the vineyard to tenants. Each was to bring for his fruit one thousand pieces of silver.I have my own vineyard. The one thousand are for you, Solomon, but two hundred for those who take care of its fruits.

Wail, cypress, for the cedar has fallen; the glorious trees are destroyed! Wail, oaks of Bashan, for the stately forest has fallen!

“ Listen to another parable: There was a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. He leased it to tenant farmers and went away.When the time came to harvest fruit, he sent his servants to the farmers to collect his fruit.The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group, and they did the same to them.Finally, he sent his son to them.‘ They will respect my son,’ he said.“ But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to each other,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?”“ He will completely destroy those terrible men,” they told him,“ and lease his vineyard to other farmers who will give him his fruit at the harvest.”

He also sent many others; some they beat, and others they killed.He still had one to send, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying,‘ They will respect my son.’But those tenant farmers said to one another,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’So they seized him, killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill the farmers and give the vineyard to others.

Rejoice, heavens, for the LORD has acted; shout, depths of the earth. Break out into singing, mountains, forest, and every tree in it. For the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and glorifies himself through Israel.

For their vine is from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah. Their grapes are poisonous; their clusters are bitter.Their wine is serpents’ venom, the deadly poison of cobras.
