But when the vine is transplanted, will it thrive? No, it will wither away when the east wind blows against it. It will die in the same good soil where it had grown so well.”

葡萄树虽然栽种，岂能发旺呢？一经东风，岂不全然枯干吗？必在生长的畦中枯干了。”

雖種植之、詎得繁盛、豈不於所植之畦、為東風所搖撼、而盡枯槁乎、○

葡萄雖為人所植、不復向榮於園囿之中、為東風來搖撼、盡為枯槁。

葡萄樹雖得栽植、豈能發旺乎、東風擊之、立即枯槁、必於栽植之處枯槁、○

Ephraim was the most fruitful of all his brothers, but the east wind— a blast from the Lord— will arise in the desert. All their flowing springs will run dry, and all their wells will disappear. Every precious thing they own will be plundered and carried away.

and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it,“ May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up.

The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up.

But the vine was uprooted in fury and thrown down to the ground. The desert wind dried up its fruit and tore off its strong branches, so that it withered and was destroyed by fire.Now the vine is transplanted to the wilderness, where the ground is hard and dry.A fire has burst out from its branches and devoured its fruit. Its remaining limbs are not strong enough to be a ruler’s scepter.“ This is a funeral song, and it will be used in a funeral.”

The people of Israel feed on the wind; they chase after the east wind all day long. They pile up lies and violence; they are making an alliance with Assyria while sending olive oil to buy support from Egypt.

Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned.

When these people eat with you in your fellowship meals commemorating the Lord’s love, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are like shameless shepherds who care only for themselves. They are like clouds blowing over the land without giving any rain. They are like trees in autumn that are doubly dead, for they bear no fruit and have been pulled up by the roots.
