In any case, he is not to acquire many horses for himself, nor shall he make the people return to Egypt in order to acquire many horses, since the Lord has said to you,‘ You shall never again return that way.’

But if you do not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, then this city will be handed over to the Chaldeans; and they will burn it with fire, and you yourself will not escape from their hands.’ ”

And as for you, you will not escape from his hand, for you will assuredly be caught and handed over to him; and you will see the king of Babylon eye to eye, and he will speak with you face to face, and you will go to Babylon.’ ” ’

Say,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers— so that all its sprouting shoots wither? And neither by great strength nor by many people can it be raised from its roots again.

and Zedekiah king of Judah will not escape from the hand of the Chaldeans, but he will certainly be handed over to the king of Babylon, and he will speak with him face to face and see him eye to eye.

And you, slain, wicked one, the prince of Israel, whose day has come, in the time of the punishment of the end,’

how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard,

so that you may enter into the covenant with the Lord your God, and into His oath which the Lord your God is making with you today,in order that He may establish you today as His people, and that He may be your God, just as He spoke to you and as He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.“ Now it is not with you alone that I am making this covenant and this oath,but both with those who stand here with us today in the presence of the Lord our God, and with those who are not with us here today

“ Woe to the rebellious children,” declares the Lord,“ Who execute a plan, but not Mine, And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin;Who proceed down to Egypt Without consulting Me, To take refuge in the safety of Pharaoh, And to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame, And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation.For their officials are at Zoan And their ambassadors arrive at Hanes.

But You, God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction; Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in You.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help And rely on horses, And trust in chariots because they are many And in horsemen because they are very strong, But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord!Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster, And does not retract His words, But will arise against the house of evildoers, And against the help of the workers of injustice.Now the Egyptians are human and not God, And their horses are flesh and not spirit; So the Lord will stretch out His hand, And any helper will stumble, And one who is helped will fall. And all of them will come to an end together.

O land, land, land, Hear the word of the Lord!This is what the Lord says:‘ Write this man down as childless, A man who will not prosper in his days; For no man among his descendants will prosper Sitting on the throne of David Or ruling again in Judah.’ ”

You snakes, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell?

A false witness will not go unpunished, And one who declares lies will not escape.

Behold, you have relied on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.But if you say to me,‘ We trust in the Lord our God,’ is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem,‘ You shall worship before this altar’?Now then, come make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to put riders on them!How then can you drive back even one official of the least of my master’s servants and rely on Egypt for chariots and horsemen?
