法老放百姓走的时候，非利士人之地的路虽近，神却不领他们从那里走，因为神说：“恐怕百姓遇见战争就后悔，转回埃及去。”神领百姓绕道而行，走旷野的路到红海。以色列人出埃及地，都带着兵器上去。

看哪，我要任凭埃及人的心刚硬，他们就跟着下去。我要在法老和他的全军、战车、战车长身上得荣耀。我在法老和他的战车、战车长身上得荣耀的时候，埃及人就知道我是耶和华。”在以色列营前行走的神的使者移动，走到他们后面；云也从他们的前面移动，站在他们后面。它来到埃及营和以色列营的中间：一边有云和黑暗，另一边它照亮夜晚，整夜彼此不得接近。摩西向海伸手，耶和华就用强劲的东风，使海水在一夜间退去，海就成了干地；水分开了。以色列人下到海中，走在干地上，水在他们左右成了墙壁。

“我是耶和华—你的神，曾将你从埃及地为奴之家领出来。

摩西领以色列人从红海起程，到了书珥的旷野，在旷野走了三天，找不到水。
