當罕譬而喻、以示違逆之家、曰、主耶和華曰、置鼎於火、盛之於水、

當為此悖逆之族設譬喻、告之曰、主天主如是云、當置釜於火、置而傾水其中、

Tell this rebellious people a parable and say to them:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ Put on the cooking pot; put it on and pour water into it.

Your people refuse to obey me. So tell them a story. Say to them,‘ The Lord and King told me,“‘ “Put a cooking pot on the fire. Pour water into it.

Then give these rebels an illustration with this message from the Sovereign Lord:“ Put a pot on the fire, and pour in some water.

Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Put the pot on the fire— put it on, and then pour water into it!

Present a parable to the rebellious house and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Put on the pot, put it on and also pour water into it;

And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Put on a pot, set it on, And also pour water into it.

And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Set on the caldron, set it on, and also pour water into it:

Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them: This is what the Lord God says: Put the pot on the fire— put it on, and then pour water into it!

And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set[ it] on, and also pour water into it:

Recite a proverb to this rebellious house and say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says:“‘ Set on the pot, set it on, pour water in it too;

Utter a parable to the rebellious house, and tell them,‘ The Lord Yahweh says,“ Put the cauldron on the fire. Put it on, and also pour water into it.

“ Son of man, propound a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;

Then I said,“ Ah, Lord God! They are saying of me,‘ Is he not a maker of parables?’”

who say,‘ The time is not near to build houses. This city is the cauldron, and we are the meat.’

And you, son of man, be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions. Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the Lord has spoken:“ Children have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me.

And he said to me,“ Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day.

“ Therefore thus says the Lord God: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose corrosion is in it, and whose corrosion has not gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece, without making any choice.

I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old,

“ Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord,“ who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin;

“ But you, son of man, hear what I say to you. Be not rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”

For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the Lord;

“ Say now to the rebellious house, Do you not know what these things mean? Tell them, behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took her king and her princes and brought them to him to Babylon.

he said,“ To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that‘ seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’

The word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying,“ What do you see?” And I said,“ I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north.”

“ You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.

and say: What was your mother? A lioness! Among lions she crouched; in the midst of young lions she reared her cubs.And she brought up one of her cubs; he became a young lion, and he learned to catch prey; he devoured men.The nations heard about him; he was caught in their pit, and they brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.When she saw that she waited in vain, that her hope was lost, she took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.He prowled among the lions; he became a young lion, and he learned to catch prey; he devoured men,and seized their widows. He laid waste their cities, and the land was appalled and all who were in it at the sound of his roaring.Then the nations set against him from provinces on every side; they spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit.With hooks they put him in a cage and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into custody, that his voice should no more be heard on the mountains of Israel.Your mother was like a vine in a vineyard planted by the water, fruitful and full of branches by reason of abundant water.Its strong stems became rulers’ scepters; it towered aloft among the thick boughs; it was seen in its height with the mass of its branches.But the vine was plucked up in fury, cast down to the ground; the east wind dried up its fruit; they were stripped off and withered. As for its strong stem, fire consumed it.Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.And fire has gone out from the stem of its shoots, has consumed its fruit, so that there remains in it no strong stem, no scepter for ruling. This is a lamentation and has become a lamentation.

This city shall not be your cauldron, nor shall you be the meat in the midst of it. I will judge you at the border of Israel,

For I am the Lord; I will speak the word that I will speak, and it will be performed. It will no longer be delayed, but in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and perform it, declares the Lord God.”

And they were seeking to arrest him but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they left him and went away.

“ Son of man, you dwell in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see, but see not, who have ears to hear, but hear not, for they are a rebellious house.

In that day they shall take up a taunt song against you and moan bitterly, and say,“ We are utterly ruined; he changes the portion of my people; how he removes it from me! To an apostate he allots our fields.”

Like emery harder than flint have I made your forehead. Fear them not, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house.”

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Your slain whom you have laid in the midst of it, they are the meat, and this city is the cauldron, but you shall be brought out of the midst of it.

But they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit; therefore he turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

Because of the wrath of the Lord she shall not be inhabited but shall be an utter desolation; everyone who passes by Babylon shall be appalled, and hiss because of all her wounds.Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the Lord.
