你读完这书卷，就要把一块石头拴在其上，投入幼发拉底河中，说：‘巴比伦因耶和华所要降与它的灾祸，必如此沉下去，不再浮起来，百姓也必困乏。’”耶利米的话到此为止。

贩卖这些货物、藉着她发财的商人，因怕她的痛苦，就远远地站着哭泣悲哀，说：“祸哉，祸哉，这大城！她穿着细麻、紫色、朱红色的衣服，用金子、宝石、珍珠为妆饰。一时之间，这么多的财富就归于无有了。”所有的船长和到处航海的，水手以及所有靠海为业的，都远远地站着，看见烧她的烟，就喊着说：“有哪一个城能跟这大城比呢？”于是他们把灰尘撒在头上，哭泣悲哀地喊着说：“祸哉，祸哉，这大城！凡有船在海中的，都因她的珍宝成了富足。她在一时之间就成为荒芜。

有一位大力的天使举起一块石头，好像大磨石，扔在海里，说：“巴比伦大城也必这样猛力地被扔下去，绝对见不到了。

我必使你成为光滑的磐石，作晒网的场所。你不得再被建造，因为我—耶和华已这样说了。这是主耶和华说的。”

凡看见你的都要定睛望你，留意看你，说：‘就是这个人吗？他使大地颤抖，使列国震动，使世界如同荒野，使城镇倾覆；是他，不释放被掳的人归家。’列国的君王各自在自己的坟墓中，在尊荣里长眠。惟独你被抛弃在你的坟墓之外，有如被厌恶的枝子，被许多用刀刺透杀死的人覆盖着，一同坠落地府的石头那里，像被践踏的尸首。

地上的君王，与她行淫、一同奢华的，看见烧她的烟，就必为她哭泣哀号；因怕她的痛苦，就远远地站着，说：“祸哉，祸哉，这大城！坚固的巴比伦城啊！一时之间，你的审判要来到了。”

海岛所有的居民为你惊奇，他们的君王都甚恐慌，面带愁容。万民中的商人向你发嘘声；你令人惊恐，不再存留于世，直到永远。”
