“ These are the names of the tribes: Beginning at the northern extreme, beside the way of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan( which is on the northern border of Damascus over against Hamath), and extending from the east side to the west, Dan, one portion.

“ Here is the list of the tribes of Israel and the territory each is to receive. The territory of Dan is in the extreme north. Its boundary line follows the Hethlon road to Lebo hamath and then runs on to Hazar enan on the border of Damascus, with Hamath to the north. Dan’s territory extends all the way across the land of Israel from east to west.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the northern end, along the road of Hethlon, to Lebo-hamath as far as Hazar-enon, at the northern border of Damascus, alongside Hamath and extending from the eastern side to the sea, will be Dan— one portion.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the northern border along the road to Hethlon at the entrance of Hamath, to Hazar Enan, the border of Damascus northward, in the direction of Hamath, there shall be one section for Dan from its east to its west side;

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the northern end, along the road of Hethlon, to Lebo-hamath as far as Hazar-enon, at the northern border of Damascus, alongside Hamath and extending from the eastern side to the sea, will be Dan— one portion.

Now these[ are] the names of the tribes. From the north end to the coast of the way of Hethlon, as one goeth to Hamath, Hazarenan, the border of Damascus northward, to the coast of Hamath; for these are his sides east[ and] west; a[ portion for] Dan.

“ These are the names of the tribes: From the northern end beside the road of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath, as far as Hazar-enan( which is on the border of Damascus, toward the north beside Hamath), extending from the east side to the west, Dan will have one portion.

“ Now these are the names of the tribes: From the north end, beside the way of Hethlon to the entrance of Hamath, Hazar Enan at the border of Damascus, northward beside Hamath( and they shall have their sides east and west), Dan, one portion.

“ And this shall be the boundary of the land: on the north side, from the Great Sea by the way of Hethlon, to the entrance of Zedad;Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran.The boundary shall extend from the sea to Hazar enan at the border of Damascus, and on the north toward the north is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.

The seventh lot went to the tribe of the sons of Dan according to their families.The territory of their inheritance was Zorah, Eshtaol, and Ir shemesh,Shaalabbin, Aijalon, and Ithlah,Elon, Timnah, and Ekron,Eltekeh, Gibbethon, and Baalath,Jehud, Bene berak, and Gath rimmon,Me jarkon, and Rakkon, with the territory opposite Joppa.The territory of the sons of Dan proceeded beyond them; for the sons of Dan went up and fought with Leshem and captured it. Then they struck it with the edge of the sword and took possession of it and settled in it; and they named Leshem Dan after the name of their father Dan.

And I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:from the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand, from the tribe of Gad twelve thousand,from the tribe of Asher twelve thousand, from the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand, from the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand,from the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand, from the tribe of Levi twelve thousand, from the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand,from the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand, from the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand, and from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand were sealed.

Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is my own? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?’So the last shall be first, and the first, last.”

Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob; they came, each one with his household:Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.All the people who descended from Jacob were seventy people, but Joseph was already in Egypt.

‘ And this shall be your northern border: you shall draw your boundary from the Great Sea to Mount Hor.You shall draw a boundary from Mount Hor to the Lebo hamath, and the termination of the border shall be at Zedad;and the border shall proceed to Ziphron, and its termination shall be at Hazar enan. This shall be your northern border.

These then are the names of the men who shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur;of the tribe of Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai;of the tribe of Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab;of Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar;of Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon;of the sons of Joseph: of Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur;of Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni;of Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai;of Asher, Pagiel the son of Ochran;of Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel;of Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan.

So the sons of Dan went on their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.Then they took what Micah had made and the priest who had belonged to him, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword; and they burned the city with fire.And there was no one to save them, because it was far from Sidon and they had no dealings with anyone, and it was in the valley which is near Beth rehob. So they rebuilt the city and lived in it.And they named the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father who was born to Israel; however, the name of the city was previously Laish.

So the king consulted, and he made two golden calves; and he said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

“ And the west side shall be the Great Sea, from the south border to a point opposite Lebo hamath. This is the west side.

So the king said to Joab the commander of the army, who was with him,“ Roam about now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and conduct a census of the people, so that I may know the number of the people.”

Then she said,“ Here is my female slave Bilhah: have relations with her that she may give birth on my knees, so that by her I too may obtain a child.”So she gave him her slave Bilhah as a wife, and Jacob had relations with her.Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.Then Rachel said,“ God has vindicated me, and has indeed heard my voice and has given me a son.” Therefore she named him Dan.
