大流士王第二年六月初一，耶和華的話藉哈該先知向撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯和約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司傳講，說：「萬軍之耶和華如此說，這百姓說，建造耶和華殿的時候還沒有到。」耶和華的話藉哈該先知傳講，說：「這殿荒涼，你們自己還住天花板的房屋嗎？現在，萬軍之耶和華如此說，你們要省察自己的行為。你們撒的種多，收的卻少；你們吃，卻不得飽；喝，卻不得足；穿衣服，卻不得暖；領工錢的，領了工錢卻裝入有破洞的袋中。「萬軍之耶和華如此說，你們要省察自己的行為。你們要上山取木料，建造這殿，我就因此喜樂，且得榮耀。這是耶和華說的。你們盼望多得，看哪，所得的卻少；你們收到家中，我就吹去。這是為甚麼呢？因為我的殿荒涼，你們各人卻只為自己的房屋奔走。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。所以，因你們的緣故，天不降甘露，地也不出土產。我命令乾旱臨到土地、山岡、五穀、新酒、新油和地上的出產，也臨到人和牲畜，以及一切人手勞碌得來的。」那時，撒拉鐵的兒子所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司，和所有倖存的百姓都聽從耶和華－他們神的話，就是哈該先知奉耶和華－他們神差遣所說的話；百姓在耶和華面前存敬畏的心。耶和華的使者哈該奉耶和華差遣對百姓說：「我與你們同在。這是耶和華說的。」耶和華激發撒拉鐵的兒子猶大省長所羅巴伯、約撒答的兒子約書亞大祭司，和所有倖存百姓的心，他們就來為萬軍之耶和華－他們神的殿做工。這是在大流士王第二年六月二十四日。七月二十一日，耶和華的話藉哈該先知傳講，說：

大流士王第二年八月，耶和華的話臨到易多的孫子，比利家的兒子撒迦利亞先知，說：「耶和華曾向你們祖先大發烈怒。你要對以色列人說，萬軍之耶和華如此說：你們要轉向我，這是萬軍之耶和華說的，我就轉向你們，這是萬軍之耶和華說的。不要效法你們的祖先。從前的先知呼叫他們說：『萬軍之耶和華如此說，當回轉離開你們的惡道惡行。』他們卻不聽，也不順從我。這是耶和華說的。你們的祖先在哪裏呢？那些先知能永遠存活嗎？然而我的言語和律例，就是我所吩咐我僕人眾先知的，豈不臨到你們的祖先嗎？他們就回轉，說：萬軍之耶和華定意按我們的所作所為對待我們，他也已經照樣行了。」大流士第二年十一月，就是細罷特月二十四日，耶和華的話臨到易多的孫子，比利家的兒子撒迦利亞先知，說：「我夜間觀看，看哪，有一人騎着紅馬，站在窪地的番石榴樹中間。在他身後有紅色、褐色和白色的馬。」我說：「主啊，這是甚麼意思？」與我說話的天使說：「我要指示你這是甚麼意思。」那站在番石榴樹中間的人回答說：「這是奉耶和華差遣，在遍地巡邏的。」他們對站在番石榴樹中間耶和華的使者說：「我們在遍地巡邏，看哪，全地都安息平靜。」於是，耶和華的使者說：「萬軍之耶和華啊，你惱恨耶路撒冷和猶大的城鎮已經七十年了，你不施憐憫要到幾時呢？」耶和華就用美善的話和安慰的話回答那與我說話的天使。與我說話的天使對我說：「你要宣告，萬軍之耶和華如此說：我為耶路撒冷而妒忌，為錫安大大妒忌。我非常惱怒那享安逸的列國，因我從前稍微惱怒，他們就越發加害。所以耶和華如此說：現在我回到耶路撒冷，仍要施憐憫，我的殿要重建在其中，準繩必拉在耶路撒冷之上。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。你要再宣告，萬軍之耶和華如此說：我的城鎮要再度繁榮發達。耶和華必再安慰錫安，揀選耶路撒冷。」我舉目觀看，看哪，有四隻角。我問那與我說話的天使：「這是甚麼意思？」他對我說：「這是擊散猶大、以色列和耶路撒冷的角。」耶和華又把四個匠人指給我看。我問：「這些人來做甚麼呢？」他說：「那是擊散猶大的角，使人不敢抬頭；但這些匠人前來威嚇列國，打掉列國的角，因為他們舉起角來擊散猶大地。」

他必倚靠耶和華的大能，倚靠耶和華－他神之名的威嚴，站立並牧養，使他們安然居住；因為現在他必尊大，直到地極。
