At that time Tattenai governor of Trans-Euphrates, Shethar-Bozenai, and their colleagues came to them and asked,“ Who gave you authority to rebuild this temple and to complete this structure?”

At the same time Tattenai, the governor beyond the River came to them, with Shetharbozenai, and their companions, and asked them,“ Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this wall?”

『所以現在呢、大河以西那邊的巡撫達乃、和示他波斯乃、跟你們的同僚、就是大河以西那邊的都察，你們都要遠離那裏；

於是大河以西那邊的巡撫達乃、和示他波斯乃、跟他們的同僚、因大利烏王所發的令、就徹底地遵行。

於是我們就問那些長老，對他們這樣說：「誰下諭旨叫你們建造這殿，把這建築物築完呢？」

你們中間凡做他子民的都可以上猶大的耶路撒冷——願他的上帝與他同在——去建造永恆主以色列之上帝的殿：只有他是上帝；他在耶路撒冷。

『我、我亞達薛西王又下了諭旨給大河以西那邊所有的司庫官，說：那精於天上上帝之律法的經學士、祭司以斯拉、無論向你們要甚麼，你們總要充分周到地備辦：

耶穌進了殿院，正教訓人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老們上他跟前來，說：『你仗着甚麼權柄作這些事啊？誰給你這權柄呢？』

我又對王說：『王若認為滿意，請給我詔書、通知大河以西那邊的巡撫准我經過，直到我抵達了猶大；賜詔書通知看守王園林的亞薩，叫他給我木料、作附屬於殿的營樓之門的橫梁、作城牆、和我自己要進住的房屋的用處。』王就賜給我所求的，因為我的上帝至善的手幫助了我。我到了大河以西那邊的巡撫那裏，將王的詔書交給他們。王又差遣軍官和馬兵護送着我。
