遣之至加西巴、見民長易多、告之、又告其同宗、殿中奔走者、當令人至此、可於上帝殿、供其職司。

命之往迦西斐雅、見其處族長易多、又傳之所當告易多、及其兄弟、並居迦西斐雅地殿役之言、即勸其遣人來、在我天主之殿供役事、

and I ordered them to go to Iddo, the leader in Kasiphia. I told them what to say to Iddo and his fellow Levites, the temple servants in Kasiphia, so that they might bring attendants to us for the house of our God.

I ordered all those men to go to Iddo. He was the leader in Kasiphia. He and his Levite relatives were temple servants there. I told my men what to say to them. I wanted Iddo and his Levite relatives to bring some attendants to us for the house of our God.

and sent them to Iddo, the leading man at the place Casiphia, telling them what to say to Iddo and his brothers and the temple servants at the place Casiphia, namely, to send us ministers for the house of our God.

I sent them to Iddo, the leader of the Levites at Casiphia, to ask him and his relatives and the Temple servants to send us ministers for the Temple of God at Jerusalem.

And I sent them forth unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia; and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, and his brethren the Nethinim, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

And I sent them with commandment unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia, and I told them what they should say unto Iddo,[ and] to his brethren the Nethinims, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand.David said,“ Of these, twenty- four thousand are to be in charge of the work of the temple of the Lord and six thousand are to be officials and judges.Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the Lord with the musical instruments I have provided for that purpose.”David separated the Levites into divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. The king asked,“ Isn’t the hand of Joab with you in all this?” The woman answered,“ As surely as you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right or to the left from anything my lord the king says. Yes, it was your servant Joab who instructed me to do this and who put all these words into the mouth of your servant. (niv)

Then go to the king and speak these words to him.” And Joab put the words in her mouth. (niv)

I myself have selected your fellow Levites from among the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the Lord to do the work at the tent of meeting. (niv)

Therefore this is what the Lord says:“ If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them. (niv)

The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you. (niv)

After that, the Levites came to do their work at the tent of meeting under the supervision of Aaron and his sons. They did with the Levites just as the Lord commanded Moses.The Lord said to Moses,“ This applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years old or more shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting,but at the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer.They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must not do the work. This, then, is how you are to assign the responsibilities of the Levites.” (niv)

the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service.”According to the last instructions of David, the Levites were counted from those twenty years old or more.The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron’s descendants in the service of the temple of the Lord: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God.They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the special flour for the grain offerings, the thin loaves made without yeast, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size.They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord. They were to do the same in the eveningand whenever burnt offerings were presented to the Lord on the Sabbaths, at the New Moon feasts and at the appointed festivals. They were to serve before the Lord regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them.And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the tent of meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their relatives the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the Lord. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him. (niv)

Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me,“ I have put my words in your mouth. (niv)

You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. (niv)

Some of the Israelites, including priests, Levites, musicians, gatekeepers and temple servants, also came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes. (niv)
